Job summary

Oshkosh Vocational Tennessee seeks a Senior Manufacturing Engineer to own process details, routings, BOMs, time studies, and engineering changes for the weld and fabrication area across business units at a new Murfreesboro facility. You will review releases, propose new equipment and tooling, and provide shop support to improve collaboration between Engineering and Operations.

The role reports to the Chief Engineer - Operations and requires strong experience in manufacturing engineering, lean

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Operations, Engineering or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in manufacturing/engineering roles.
  • Experience with welding aluminum and steel; Lean tools familiarity.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as SME for manufacturing processes and equipment.
  • Coach engineers/technicians to uphold manufacturing excellence.
  • Lead/partially lead projects using lean/six sigma to improve processes.
  • Coordinate with Engineering and Operations on equipment/tooling changes.
  • Support weld/fab department across business units.

This role will be based onsite at our brand-new facility in Murfreesboro and reporting to our Chief Engineer - Operations.

The Senior Manufacturing Engineer will be responsible for all detailed processes in connection with manufacturing, routings, master data, time studies, manufacturing bill of materials, and change notices/engineering changes. This role will review new releases for design and manufacturing and support with recommendations for new equipment and tooling. The Senior Manufacturing Engineer will provide shop support to aid in improving the coordination and collaboration between Engineering and Operations departments.

This position will primarily support the weld and fab department for all business units operating in the facility.

YOUR IMPACT:
  • Be the subject matter expert for a selected series of processes, usually defined by common manufacturing equipment or by product
  • Oversee and coach supporting engineers or engineering technicians in their daily work to ensure manufacturing excellence
  • Responsible for completion of a project or parts of multiple projects of complexity on time and utilize lean/six sigma principles and methodologies in making process improvements
  • Manage the capitalization of equipment and receipts of POs relative to projects you are leading or supporting
  • Performs complex engineering calculations, investigations, and prepares delivery of plans, designs, computation methods and/or reporting
  • Manage the cycle time balance of each station to ensure output matches delivery schedule
  • Determine appropriate weld fixturing that are complex in nature and sequence of operations
  • Prepare PQR and WPS with assistance from the CWI supporting the facility
  • Review and select required special tooling and equipment
  • Collaborate with design engineering to develop corrective actions for product performance issues
  • Develop and support recommendations for new equipment and tooling
  • Provide technical guidance for minor to complex issues found in production
  • Configure or update ERP data to ensure accurate cost and labor calculations
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree in Operations, Engineering or related field.
  • Five (5) or more years of experience.
STANDOUT QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Experience with welding aluminum and steel. With and without automation.
  • Strong familiarity with Industrial engineering methods / Lean tools
  • Experience with new equipment planning (layout, electrical, footings, airflow, etc...) with general contractors.
  • Deep knowledge of machining/fabrication methods related to bar, extrusion, and sheet metal. This includes fiber laser cutting, press brake, CNC mills, band saws, lathes, etc...
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, government regulations, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to adapt to a fast-paced environment.
