Job summary

Symbotic in Wilmington, MA is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer Intern to join the External Manufacturing team for the summer. You will support manufacturing readiness, document processes, and assist with cross-functional projects across mechanical and electrical domains.

You will work with senior engineers, external partners, and internal teams to learn manufacturing workflows, contribute to continuous improvements, and gain hands-on experience with robotics and automation in a fast-moving

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
• Academic project, lab, internship, co-op, or other hands-on exposure to manufacturing, automation, prototyping, or engineering processes.
• Ability to interpret and work with mechanical or electrical engineering documentation, with an interest in developing experience across both disciplines.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with an interest in process improvement and learning how products move from engineering into manufacturing.
• Interest in using data, dashboards, automation, or emerging tools to improve manufacturing and engineering processes.

Responsibilities

• Support senior engineers and external manufacturing partners on manufacturing readiness, production support, and continuous improvement activities.
• Partner with Engineering and Quality teams to prepare manufacturing readiness documentation, support engineering changes, and help maintain standard manufacturing processes and procedures.
• Work across mechanical and electrical systems, including reviewing drawings, manufacturing requirements, and production-related technical documentation.
• Support Design for Manufacturability activities and help identify opportunities to improve manufacturability, quality, efficiency, and scalability.
• Assist with troubleshooting manufacturing and design challenges and collaborate with internal teams and external partners to identify practical solutions.
• Contribute to process improvement initiatives, including opportunities to use dashboards, data, automation, or AI-enabled tools to improve team efficiency.
• Travel to external manufacturing partner locations as needed to gain hands-on exposure to manufacturing operations and support production activities.
