Job summary

Sacoma Specialty Products is seeking a hands-on Manufacturing Engineer with experience in metal fabrication and welding environments. This role sits on the manufacturing floor to improve fabrication processes, troubleshoot equipment, support tooling and mechanical improvements, and drive safety, quality, efficiency, and cost.

You'll work closely with engineers, production, maintenance, and leadership to turn insights into practical changes.

Qualifications

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology or equivalent with practical knowledge of mechanical systems.
• Proficient in reading blueprints, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
• 1–3 years technical fabrication experience in an industrial setting.
• Experience troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining heavy manufacturing equipment.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate manufacturing processes by designing and conducting research programs using product design, fabrication, tooling, and materials knowledge.
• Develop processes by researching, designing, modifying, and testing manufacturing methods and equipment.
• Improve efficiency by analyzing workflow, space needs, and equipment layout.
• Assist production with programming and adjusting robotic MIG welders and resistance welders.
• Ensure product and process quality by designing tests, establishing standards, and confirming processes.

Essential Responsibilities

• Evaluate manufacturing processes by designing and conducting research programs while applying knowledge of product design, fabrication, assembly, tooling, and materials.
• Develop manufacturing processes by researching, designing, modifying, and testing manufacturing methods and equipment.
• Improve manufacturing efficiency by analyzing workflow, space requirements, and equipment layout.
• Assist production with programming and adjusting robotic MIG welders and resistance welders.
• Ensure product and process quality by designing testing methods, establishing standards, and confirming manufacturing processes.
• Calculate production, labor, and material costs while reviewing production schedules and estimating future requirements.
• Prepare product and process reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing manufacturing data and trends.
• Investigate current manufacturing technologies and implement mechanical improvements to create more repeatable, stable, and reliable manufacturing processes.
• Implement mechanical improvements to production equipment while maintaining equipment, process, and part specifications.
• Perform hands-on improvements to manufacturing equipment approximately 70% of the time.
• Research and cost improvement opportunities approximately 25% of the time.
• Perform clerical responsibilities, including purchase orders and project timelines, approximately 5% of the time.

Requirements

Qualifications

• Mechanical Engineering Technology degree or similar degree preferred. Equivalent work experience demonstrating mechanical knowledge, theory, and application will be considered.
• Proficiency with 3D CAD software (Creo preferred).
• Minimum of 1-3 years of technical experience in a fabrication environment.
• Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
• Experience troubleshooting, repairing, and performing preventative maintenance on heavy industrial manufacturing equipment.
• Industrial experience working with electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
• Knowledge of PLC programming, industrial sensors, and servo motors is a plus.
• Experience conducting time studies and reporting collected data.
