Job summary

Sacoma Specialty Products is seeking a hands-on Manufacturing Engineer with metal fabrication and welding experience. This on-floor role focuses on improving fabrication processes, troubleshooting equipment, and supporting tooling and mechanical improvements to boost safety, quality, efficiency, and cost.

Qualifications

• Mechanical Engineering Technology degree preferred; equivalent work experience will be considered.
• 1–3 years of technical experience in a fabrication environment.
• Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
• Experience troubleshooting, repairing, and preventive maintenance on heavy industrial manufacturing equipment.
• Industrial experience with electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
• Knowledge of PLC programming, sensors, and servo motors is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate manufacturing processes by designing and conducting research programs applying product design, fabrication, tooling, and materials knowledge.
• Develop manufacturing methods by researching, designing, modifying, and testing processes and equipment.
• Improve efficiency by analyzing workflow, space requirements, and equipment layout.
• Assist production with programming and adjusting robotic MIG welders and resistance welders.
• Ensure product and process quality by designing testing methods and establishing standards.
• Calculate production, labor, and material costs while reviewing production schedules and estimating future requirements.
• Prepare product and process reports by collecting and summarizing manufacturing data and trends.
• Investigate current technologies and implement improvements for repeatable, stable, and reliable processes.
• Implement mechanical improvements to production equipment while maintaining specifications.
• Perform hands-on improvements to equipment ~70% of the time.
• Research and cost-improvement opportunities ~25% of the time.
• Perform clerical responsibilities, including purchase orders and project timelines ~5% of the time.

Essential Responsibilities

• Perform hands-on improvements to manufacturing equipment approximately 70% of the time.
• Research and cost improvement opportunities approximately 25% of the time.
• Perform clerical responsibilities, including purchase orders and project timelines, approximately 5% of the time.

Requirements

Qualifications

• Mechanical Engineering Technology degree or similar degree preferred. Equivalent work experience demonstrating mechanical knowledge, theory, and application will be considered.
• Proficiency with 3D CAD software (Creo preferred).
• Minimum of 1-3 years of technical experience in a fabrication environment.
• Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
• Experience troubleshooting, repairing, and performing preventative maintenance on heavy industrial manufacturing equipment.
• Industrial experience working with electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
• Knowledge of PLC programming, industrial sensors, and servo motors is a plus.
• Experience conducting time studies and reporting collected data.
