Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related field.
  • 3–5+ years of hands-on manufacturing engineering experience in metalworking, machining, or metal casting.
  • Solid working knowledge of 3D CAD modeling and drafting (SolidWorks preferred).
  • Proven capability to lead root-cause analysis, troubleshoot mechanical/process issues, and drive corrective actions.

Responsibilities

  • Design, evaluate, and implement cost-effective, repeatable manufacturing processes, machine cycle times, and production layouts for high-precision bronze and alloy components.
  • Design, test, and implement new foundry dies using SolidWorks.
  • Provide CNC/machining support and assist with troubleshooting FA parts in collaboration with the CNC Programmer.
  • Coordinate the manufacturing launch of new parts and design changes from prototype to full-scale production, ensuring quality, cost, and delivery specs.
  • Lead Lean/Six Sigma continuous improvement initiatives (Kaizen, 6S, VSM) to reduce scrap, downtime, and setup times.
  • Conduct failure analysis, process audits, and root-cause problem-solving (8D, 5-Why, Fishbone).
  • Partner with plant operators, metallurgy, quality, and safety teams to improve shop-floor safety and overall efficiency.

As part of Fisher Barton’s Accurate Specialties division (ASI), our Waukesha location serves as a leading foundry and turning center specializing in precision-machined bronze gear blanks, non-ferrous castings, and complex close-tolerance components for the power transmission and industrial sectors.

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Manufacturing Engineer to support plant production, drive continuous improvement, and ensure optimal efficiency across our machining and casting operations. In this role, you will design, implement, and optimize manufacturing processes for the bronze foundry and CNC turning department. You will work closely with cross-functional teams in production, quality, and sales to launch new products, eliminate waste, and increase asset utilization.

Key Responsibilities
  • Process Optimization & Standardized Work: Design, evaluate, and implement cost-effective, repeatable manufacturing processes, machine cycle times, and production layouts for high-precision bronze and alloy components.
  • Foundry & Tooling Design: Design (SolidWorks), test, and implement new foundry dies.
  • CNC & Machining Support: Support precision turning; assist with troubleshooting FA parts while working with the CNC Programmer.
  • New Product Introduction (NPI): Coordinate the manufacturing launch of new parts and design changes from prototype to full-scale production, ensuring adherence to quality, cost, and delivery specifications.
  • Continuous Improvement (Lean / 6S): Lead and participate in continuous improvement initiatives (Kaizen, 6S, Value Stream Mapping) to reduce scrap, downtime, and set-up times using Lean/Six Sigma principles.
  • Root Cause & Corrective Action: Conduct failure analysis, process audits, and root-cause problem-solving (8D, 5-Why, Fishbone) for manufacturing deviations and quality non-conformances.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with plant operators, metallurgy experts, quality control, and safety teams to improve shop-floor safety, ergonomics, and overall operational efficiency.
Qualifications & Requirements

Required:

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Experience: 3–5+ years of hands-on manufacturing engineering experience within a metalworking, machining, or metal casting production environment.
  • CAD Proficiency: Solid working knowledge of 3D CAD modeling and drafting (SolidWorks preferred).
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Proven capability to lead root-cause analysis, troubleshoot complex mechanical and process issues, and drive corrective actions.

Preferred:

  • Background in non-ferrous metals, bronze gear manufacturing, foundry processes (spun/centrifugal/static cast), or metallurgy fundamentals.
  • Hands-on experience with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma tools
  • Experience with CNC Turning
  • Experience with ERPs (Epicor)
Physical Requirements & Working Environment
  • Blend of office/workstation environments and active plant floor execution.
  • Ability to wear standard PPE (safety shoes, hearing protection, safety glasses) as required on the shop floor.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs periodically during fixture setup and shop-floor trial runs.
