Crane Company on the shop floor in Saddle Brook, NJ seeks a Manufacturing Engineer to support production through troubleshooting and root cause analysis, ensuring processes meet safety, quality and throughput requirements. Hands-on role on the shop floor with tooling and process design responsibilities.

The position leads/participates in cost-reduction projects from ideation to implementation, supports ISO/IATF quality programs, and guides operators to maximize productivity and reduce waste.

Qualifications

  • B.S. in Engineering or related degree.
  • Problem solving and root cause analysis skills.
  • Proficient with 2D and 3D CAD software.

Responsibilities

  • Support safe, efficient, productive and economical manufacturing operations.
  • Develop routings, tool lists, fixtures, process instructions and process requirements.
  • Develop work instructions and standard work to document processes and flow.
  • Drive waste reduction through lean and CBS methodologies.
  • Address production Andon stoppages and develop counter measures using 5 Why methodology.
  • Train operators on proper manufacturing methods to maximize productivity.
  • Coordinate purchase of materials and tooling.
  • Implement changes to tools and fixtures.
  • Support new process and product development implementation.
  • Lead continuous improvement and quality initiatives per IATF 16949.
  • Participate in toll gates for DFMEA, PFMEA, Control Plan, MSA, and capability studies.

Job description

Position Summary:

Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for supporting production through daily trouble shooting and root cause analysis to ensure processes are safe, meet quality and throughput requirements and making the work easier for the operators. This requires hands on involvement and working on the shop floor. In addition to this support, they will be responsible for design and implementation of tooling and/or process changes to improve manufacturing processes. They will also own larger cost reduction projects from ideation, feasibility and design, Capital Expenditure approval, and implementation. Lead/Support quality improvement initiatives as per IATF 16949-2016 to achieve set sigma level for value stream. Guide production team on issue resolution using knowledge relevant to your department specialties.

Principle Duties (includes, but is not limited to):
  • Provides support to obtain safe, efficient, productive and economical manufacturing operations.
  • Develops and maintains routings, tool lists, fixtures, process instructions and process requirements, for manufacturing equipment and operations.
  • Develops Work instructions and standard work to document processes and flow.
  • Drives out waste from manufacturing operations through the deployment of lean and CBS methodology.
  • Addresses production Andon stoppages and develops counter measures using 5 why methodology.
  • Trains operators on proper, efficient manufacturing methods and procedures, to maximize machine and process productivity.
  • Coordinates the purchase of necessary production materials and tooling.
  • Implements changes to tools and fixtures.
  • Supports new process and product development implementation.
  • Assists with developing and implementing current and future state value stream maps and continuous Improvement plans.
  • Audits and improves existing manufacturing processes.
  • Solves daily manufacturing process problems.
  • Tries out experimental commercial tooling.
  • Simplifies the methods/tooling and therefore reduces cycle times and W.I.P.
  • Improves area equipment layouts and material flow.
  • Assists operators with daily assembly problems with equipment, methods and tooling.
  • Assists in justifying and coordinating the installation of capital equipment.
  • Participates actively in the Continuous Improvement and Quality processes including project team involvement and problem solving.
  • Participate quality improvements as per IATF 16949 2016 ensure to complete toll gates for DFMEA, PFMEA, Control Plan, MSA, Process capability study for in house process
  • Ensure requirements of relevant standards like ISO 9001-2015, etc. are being consistently met and improved.
Essential Qualifications / Experience:
  • B.S. in Engineering or related degree.
  • Problem solving and root cause analysis skills.
  • Proficient with 2D and 3D CAD software
Preferred Qualifications/Experience
  • Exposure to lean manufacturing, six sigma, and 5S practices.
  • Proficient with data analysis, statistics, and applied mathematics.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand process & product specifications.
  • Basic understanding of industrial assembly, fabrication, and machining processes.
  • Working experience with Autodesk Inventor Professional

Salary range:

$85,000 to $115,000. Several factors contribute to actual salary, including experience in a similar role or performing comparable job responsibilities, skills, training, and other qualifications. Compensation packages also include comprehensive benefits, 401K contribution and match, Paid Time Off, paid holidays, tuition reimbursement and more. Some roles may be eligible for participation in performance-based bonus programs.
