FurstStaffing is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to support the cold heading department, improving processes and ensuring product quality on the production floor in Rockford, IL. The Manufacturing Engineer supports production operations, improves manufacturing processes, and ensures product quality in the cold heading department. This role collaborates with production, quality, and maintenance teams to drive continuous improvement, troubleshoot challenges, and address customer inquiries on new products.
Develop, evaluate, and improve cold heading and forming processes for efficiency and quality
Troubleshoot process and tooling issues on the production floor
Design and specify tooling and equipment for new and existing parts
Work with quality and production to reduce scrap and downtime
Analyze production data and recommend improvements
Assist with machine setup procedures and process documentation
Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and ISO 9001:2015 standards
Support new product development and process validation
Collaborate with customers and vendors on technical requirements and improvements
Fastener manufacturing background (required)
2-5+ years of engineering or equivalent hands‑on experience in a manufacturing environment (cold heading or metal forming strongly preferred)
Familiarity with cold heading machines (e.g., National, Waterbury, or Sacma) and tooling
Strong problem‑solving skills and mechanical aptitude
Proficiency in CAD (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar)
Knowledge of lean manufacturing, SPC, and root cause analysis
Excellent communication and organizational skills
Degree not required - relevant work experience is acceptable
Knowledge of heat treating, plating, and secondary operations
Experience in an ISO-certified environment
You have 2-5 years cold-heading engineering experience. Proficient in SolidWorks CAD and lean manufacturing principles. Skilled at troubleshooting tooling issues and reducing scrap
