Job summary

Johnstech in Minneapolis, MN is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to optimize safety, quality, delivery, and productivity. You will lead lean projects, develop scalable processes, and support new product introductions with manufacturability analyses and cost-saving initiatives.

This role requires a BS in engineering (manufacturing/industrial/mechanical), 2+ years CNC experience, CAD proficiency, and strong problem-solving and PM skills. Competitive pay and comprehensive benefits are offered.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in engineering (Manufacturing, Industrial, or Mechanical).
  • 2+ years applicable experience in a manufacturing CNC machining environment.
  • Proficient with 2D/3D CAD.
  • Strong problem-solving skills including root cause analysis and data analytics.
  • Proven ability in Project Management.
  • Proficient with Lean methodologies such as TOC, TPM, Visual Factory and Six Sigma.

Responsibilities

  • Work in a collaborative setting applying Lean and Six Sigma to identify and eliminate waste.
  • Lead Operational Excellence initiatives with cost oversight and tracking of improvements.
  • Analyze and plan workforce utilization, space requirements, and workflow through process design.
  • Provide oversight to operation/routing times for processes.
  • Serve as SME technical support for processes and training for production personnel.
  • Support new product development with manufacturability analysis and process development.
  • Design and develop tools and fixtures to aid ergonomics, poke-yoke, and productivity.
  • Identify and drive opportunities to improve product repeatability and reproducibility.
  • Research and implement new manufacturing techniques and technology development.
  • Develop ROI and business cases for equipment procurement to improve capabilities.
  • Conduct feasibility studies for proposed equipment and systems and manage project plans.
  • Provide build/buy/borrow analysis for manufacturing competencies.
  • Participate in Tiered meetings between manufacturing and management.

Job description

The Manufacturing Engineer applies expertise and knowledge to technical projects while finding innovative and cost-effective means to improve safety, quality, delivery, and productivity within a manufacturing facility. Responsibilities include planning, developing, evaluating, and conducting current state analysis and leading the implementation of projects towards future state objectives utilizing teamwork and a continuous improvement mindset.

Key Duties and Accountabilities:

  • Work in a collaborative setting, utilizing knowledge of commonly used Lean and Six Sigma tools and techniques to identify and eliminate prioritized waste within the value stream.
  • Lead Operational Excellence initiatives while providing cost oversights and ability to track and communicate improvements and savings.
  • Analyzes and plans work force utilization, space requirements, and workflow through efficient process design and equipment layout.
  • Provide oversight to operation/routing times associated to given process.
  • Function as the SME technical support for processes and training for production personnel.
  • Participate and support new product development teams with: feasibility and design for manufacturability analysis; suggestions to simplify and reduce variation; representing manufacturing’s needs; and with coordinating and developing new processes and techniques as needed for new products.
  • Design and Develop tools and fixtures to aid in ergonomics, poke-yoke, and productivity.
  • Identify and drive opportunities to improve product repeatability and reproducibility.
  • Research, recommend, and implement new and innovative manufacturing technique, technology development, and advanced technology process development.
  • Develop business case and ROI justification for recommendation and procurement of additional equipment used to improve the manufacturing capabilities and capacities.
  • Conduct detailed feasibility studies for proposed equipment and systems. Create and execute project plans with regular communication with stakeholders. Includes risk identification with mitigation and contingency planning.
  • Provide build/buy/borrow analysis for manufacturing competencies.
  • Participate and contribute to Tiered meetings between manufacturing and management.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor of Science degree in engineering (Manufacturing, Industrial, or Mechanical).
  • 2+ years applicable experience in a manufacturing CNC machining environment.
  • Proficient with 2D/3D CAD.
  • Proven strong problem-solving skills including root cause analysis and data analytics.
  • Proven ability in Project Management
  • Proficient with Lean methodologies such as TOC, TPM, Visual Factory and Six Sigma.

Pay range for this position is 75k to 90K. This salary information serves as a general guideline. Several factors are considered when making an offer for this position including but not limited to work experience, education, geographic location, certifications, key skills, market and business conditions.
