Position Overview

The Senior Manufacturing Engineer will join our Hardware Engineering team in Indianapolis, IN. The position is 100% on-site, blending office work with industrial manufacturing floor activities.

Typical Duties

While not supervisory, the Senior Manufacturing Engineer will guide a team of 5-8 engineers in a Maintenance/Repair/Overhaul (MRO) operation & modernization project of aeronautical platform subsystems. Key skills include understanding military Technical Manuals (TMs), Technical Orders (TOs), engineering drawings, CAD models, and translating these into work instructions for fabrication and assembly. The role involves process development, disposition of defective materials, and guiding Engineering Change Management activities in coordination with project leaders.

Sample Tasks

Review and approve work instruction changes, track Engineering Proposals (EPs), Requests for Variances (RFVs), and Engineering Change Notices (ECNs). Coordinate with engineering, production scheduling, and quality control to resolve defects and implement modifications at the component and assembly levels.

Required Skills
  • 10+ years in a cross-functional engineering role.
  • 5+ years in major assembly operations.
  • 3-5+ years in industrial metal fabrication, including machining, sheet metal fabrication, and mechanical assembly, with knowledge of metals’ material properties.
  • Technical writing experience, especially developing detailed work instructions.
  • Proficiency with 3D CAD programs (preferably PTC Creo).
  • Familiarity with ASME Y14 standards, including Y14.5 GD&T, and ability to interpret assembly drawings.
  • Must be a US Citizen capable of passing a background check and obtaining a Secret Security Clearance (active clearance preferred).
Desired Experience & Skills
  • 7+ years in aerospace/defense manufacturing, especially with MRO and military aircraft production.
  • FAA A&P certification is a plus.
  • 6-10+ years of direct DoD maintenance experience (e.g., AFSCs 21AX, 2A7X3, etc.) is a plus.
  • Experience with ERP platforms (SAP S/4HANA preferred).
  • Experience with PDM tools like Windchill.
  • Knowledge of industry standards (ASME, ASTM, SAE, MIL-STDs) related to fabrication and assembly.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs.
Education
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering/Technology or related field.
