Job description

PPG Aerospace is the world's leading supplier of aircraft transparencies, serving global markets with a full range of product designs. Manufacturing in this environment involves complex, low-volume production of high-value products using advanced technologies. The company continually introduces new products. The Manufacturing Engineer will report to the Manager of Manufacturing Engineering and Lean.

PPG Aerospace is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to evaluate and develop manufacturing processes for transparency products that meet specific design and performance standards. The role encompasses Safety, Quality, Manufacturing Performance Improvement, Process and Capital Improvement, and Personal Development. The engineer will provide hands-on technical support and collaborate with the customer’s technical team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support manufacturing operations by investigating issues, performing root cause analysis on non-conforming products, and implementing corrective actions.
  • Analyze returned products to determine corrective actions and coordinate repairs.
  • Provide technical support in manufacturing processes, especially in forming polycarbonate panels.
  • Define tooling requirements and collaborate during design and development stages.
  • Work with design and development teams on new products.
  • Develop Bills of Material and Manufacturing Work Instructions for current and new jobs.
  • Assess processes, operations, assembly, and equipment to identify improvements in time, quality, and efficiency.
  • Prioritize reductions in setup time and process variation, aiming to improve process capability using Lean Manufacturing principles.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering with at least 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in Aerospace and Defense preferred.
  • Six Sigma Green Belt or similar continuous improvement certification is a plus.
  • Must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident; ability to acquire security clearance is advantageous.
