Job summary

Morgan Hunter is seeking a Manager, Cost Accounting in Kansas City to oversee product costing, inventory valuation, and manufacturing variances. You will mentor a small accounting team and partner with production, engineering, and operations to support strategic decisions.

You will drive standard costing, pricing reviews, and cost improvements while ensuring GAAP compliance and strong internal controls across the organization.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required.
• Minimum 3 years of accounting experience with a strong background in manufacturing cost accounting.
• Previous management experience required.
• Experience with ERP systems.
• Advanced Excel skills to analyze and interpret financial data.
• Strong GAAP knowledge and cost accounting principles.
• Excellent cross-functional communication and collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Lead all cost accounting activities, including product costing, inventory valuation, standard costing, and manufacturing variance analysis.
• Analyze inventory, standard costs, and production variances to ensure accurate monthly financial reporting.
• Monitor and maintain standard cost structures and recommend updates as needed.
• Review product costs and pricing to ensure appropriate cost-to-price relationships.
• Oversee job costing for current and completed production.
• Prepare inventory and job costing schedules for the annual audit.
• Develop reporting and analysis to identify cost improvement opportunities and operational efficiencies.
• Partner with manufacturing, engineering, purchasing, and operations to support business decisions.
• Maintain and strengthen internal controls related to inventory and cost accounting.
• Lead process improvement initiatives to increase efficiency and financial reporting.
