Job description

Managing Director of Grants

IDEA Public Schools is seeking a Managing Director of Grants to join our growing Business Office team. The Managing Director of Grants will report to the Vice President of Treasury and Grants. This position will be responsible for ensuring compliance with all aspects of federal, state, and local grants. The Managing Director of Grants will also evaluate major programs and staff composition annually to identify potential cost savings and support leaders during planning.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • Manage Directors of Grants, Philanthropic Grants, Compliance, Public Competitive Grants, and Grants Accountants.
Location:

This is a full-time remote position based in Texas, with preference given to candidates in Austin, El Paso, Houston, Permian Basin (Midland/Odessa), Rio Grande Valley, San Antonio, and Tarrant County (Fort Worth), or those willing to relocate.

Travel Expectations:

Up to 30% during peak periods.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Lead grant compliance training for national, regional, and campus leaders, emphasizing their fiduciary responsibilities.
  2. Oversee development and execution of program plans, budget implementation, and monitoring across IDEA Public Schools.
  3. Deliver quarterly training on federal and philanthropic grants, highlighting risks and KPIs.
  4. Manage the team through grant drawdown processes, ensuring compliance and proper documentation.
  5. Review and approve grant reimbursements monthly for accuracy and compliance.
  6. Maintain proper documentation for all grants and coordinate internal reporting.
  7. Present grant updates to the Board, Superintendents, and Committees.
  8. Ensure timely grant payroll compliance and internal controls.
  9. Support policy development with the VP of Treasury and Grants.
  10. Develop measurable goals for team growth and effectiveness.
  11. Coordinate with internal audit and finance teams for compliance and corrective actions.
  12. Collaborate with school leaders on needs assessments and improvement plans.
  13. Ensure compliance with ESSA, EDGAR, and DOE regulations.
  14. Review and revise Corrective Action Plans as needed.
Knowledge and Skills:
  • Sound decision-making and team management skills.
  • Ability to foster growth and build trust within teams.
  • Effective communication skills, empathetic listening, and relationship building.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, ERP systems, and financial software like Tyler Munis, Skyward, or Oracle.
Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business administration, or economics.
  • At least 7 years of experience in accounting, finance, or grants, including federal and state programs.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience with EDGAR regulations.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in relevant fields.
  • 5-7 years supervisory experience.
Physical Requirements:

This position is sedentary.

Compensation & Benefits:

Salary range: $119,000 - $142,800, commensurate with experience, plus performance pay. Benefits include health plans, insurance, parental leave, flexible spending, vacation, bonuses, professional development, and a 403(b) plan. More info at IDEA Benefits.
