Job description

Managing Director of Grants

Mission:

IDEA Public Schools is seeking a Managing Director of Grants to join our growing Business Office team. The Managing Director of Grants will report to the Vice President of Treasury and Grants. This position is responsible for ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local grants, evaluating major programs and staff annually for potential cost savings, and supporting leaders during planning.

As part of the National team, you will support 13 regions across 15 states to achieve annual income goals while stewarding public funds and donations. The Managing Director will be the subject matter expert on financial laws, program guidelines, policies, and procedures related to grants. Strong leadership and interpersonal skills are essential to build partnerships, lead teams, and clarify grant requirements.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Manage Directors of Grants, Philanthropic Grants, Compliance, Public Competitive Grants, and Grants Accountants (2).

Location:

This is a full-time remote role based in Texas, preferably in Austin, El Paso, Houston, Permian Basin, Rio Grande Valley, San Antonio, or Tarrant County, or candidates willing to relocate.

Travel Expectations:

Up to 30% during peak periods.

What You’ll Do – Accountabilities:
Essential Duties:
  • Lead training on grant compliance for national, regional, and campus leaders, emphasizing their fiduciary responsibilities.
  • Oversee program planning, implementation, and budget monitoring across IDEA headquarters and campuses.
  • Develop and deliver quarterly training on federal and philanthropic grants, highlighting risks and KPIs.
  • Guide the team through the drawdown process with regular training and meetings.
  • Review and approve monthly grant reimbursements for accuracy and compliance.
  • Ensure proper documentation of grants prior to submitting drawdowns.
  • Coordinate internal reporting with stakeholders, requiring excellent communication skills.
Additional Duties:
  • Present grant updates to various governance bodies monthly.
  • Ensure timely compliance with grant payroll and reporting requirements.
  • Develop and maintain internal controls and processes.
  • Support VP of Treasury and Grants in policy development.
  • Set measurable goals for Directors to foster growth.
  • Support internal audits and corrective actions.
  • Collaborate on district and campus improvement plans.
  • Manage grant development, implementation, and reporting to meet compliance standards.
  • Monitor and revise Corrective Action Plans to meet high-risk requirements.

Additional Skills:
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Excel, and ERP systems like Tyler Munis, Skyward, Oracle, or similar.
Required Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business administration, or economics.
  • 7+ years in accounting, finance, or grants, focusing on federal and state programs.
  • 5+ years familiarity with EDGAR regulations.
Preferred Experience:
  • Master’s degree in relevant fields.
  • 5-7 years supervisory experience.
Physical Requirements:
  • Sedentary position.
What We Offer:

Salary range: $119,000 - $142,800, commensurate with experience. Performance pay is available. Benefits include health plans, insurance, parental benefits, flexible spending, vacation, bonuses, professional development, and a 403(b) plan. More info at IDEA Benefits.
