Job Summary
The Managing Director, Membership Sales for the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) will be responsible for growing NEMA’s corporate membership base by planning and executing a direct engagement strategy to proactively engage prospective members on the benefits of joining NEMA, close the sale, and foster membership retention. NEMA is seeking an experienced, innovative, and motivated sales professional to join our team.

Job Responsibilities
This commission-based sales position will help drive NEMA’s membership growth strategy, specifically targeting and recruiting C-Suite executives for new membership sales. To perform this job successfully, each of the following essential job responsibilities must be acted upon:

  • Prospecting : Manage and grow a list of prospective members and develop a strategy for successfully engaging companies to join NEMA through direct engagement.
  • Sales Meetings : The candidate will be responsible for setting the meeting, attending, and leading the meetings with C-Suite executives. Prepare for the meeting and the approach for each meeting to include involving the correct NEMA staff to attend the meeting. In person and virtual meetings will be a core part of the job.
  • Closing the Sale : Manage the follow-up to each sales meeting to fruition by answering any questions and closing the sale.
  • Engaging Members : As part of the sales process capture business intelligence, to support the member engagement team by leveraging relationships developed during the sale process to enhance member value.
  • Budgeting & Forecasting: Establish annual budget requirements for membership recruitment and retention. Partner with the Finance team to ensure alignment of membership forecast goals and revenue projections.
  • Retention & Value Experience: Articulate, refine and adapt NEMA’s value proposition to potential and existing members. Serve as a leading brand ambassador for NEMA. Assess existing membership base to analyze the member experience and develop retention tactics and strategies, addressing or elevating issues of concern with urgency.
  • Other responsibilities: May be assigned to meet business needs

Requirements : The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required to successfully perform the job as well as the education and experience requirements.

  • Eight plus years of sales experience; experience selling value-added services or memberships is a plus
  • Understanding of or direct experience working for a trade or membership association is a plus
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred; concentration in sales or marketing operations is a plus
  • Knowledge of the electrical industry is preferred, as is knowledge of smart manufacturing
  • Experience in selling membership products like standards engagement, market intelligence, government relations/lobbying a plus.
  • The candidate must possess strong written and oral communication skills enabling themto articulate and demonstrate the value proposition that NEMA provides to its members.
  • Proven ability to engage and persuade C-suite audiences essential

Travel: Up to 20%

Total Rewards:

The total cash compensation for this position includes a competitive base salary and a rewarding sales commission plan.
