Job summary

BayCare Health System in Tampa, FL seeks a Manager Technical Director of Toxicology and Special Chemistry to lead LC-MS/MS method development, TDM, and advanced testing services. You will ensure regulatory compliance and clinical relevance while guiding personnel and operations.

The role requires a Doctorate of Science with Florida licensure as Lab Supervisor or Director, plus preferred fellowship in Clinical Chemistry and DABCC certification.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years in a clinical laboratory with 2 years in Clinical Chemistry focusing on Mass Spectrometry.
• Florida Lab Supervisor or Lab Director licensure is required.
• Fellowship in Clinical Chemistry and DABCC certification preferred.
• Doctorate of Science is required.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical and operational leadership for Toxicology and Special Chemistry testing services, including LC-MS/MS method development and oversight.
• Ensure accuracy, regulatory compliance, and clinical relevance of laboratory services through oversight of method selection, validation, quality management, proficiency testing, and personnel competency.
• Serve as subject matter expert, advising physicians, laboratory leadership, and medical directors on test utilization, result interpretation, and emerging technologies.
• Collaborate with system laboratory leadership to evaluate, select, implement new testing capabilities, optimize workflows, and expand specialized testing services.

The Manager Technical Director Toxicology And Special Chemistry:

• Provides technical and operational leadership for Toxicology and Special Chemistry testing services, including, but not limited to, LC-MS/MS method development and oversight, therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM), including immunosuppressant monitoring for transplant patients, drugs-of-abuse testing/confirmation, pain management testing, endocrinology, autoimmune testing, protein electrophoresis, allergen testing, and serology.
• The position is responsible for accuracy, regulatory compliance, and clinical relevance of laboratory services through oversight of method selection, validation, quality management, proficiency testing, and personnel competency.
• Serves as the subject matter expert, providing consultation to physicians, laboratory leadership, and medical directors regarding test utilization, result interpretation, and emerging technologies.
• Collaborates with system laboratory leadership to evaluate, select, and implement new testing capabilities, assess instrumentation, optimize workflows, and strategically expand specialized testing services to support BayCare's growing clinical needs and advance excellence in patient care.

Position Details:

• Status: Full Time, Salaried
• Shift Hours: 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM

Required

Minimum Qualifications:

Licensure: Florida Lab Supervisor or Lab Director.

Preferred

Licensure: Fellowship in Clinical Chemistry and preferred Certification Diplomat of the American Board of Clinical Chemistry (DABCC).

Experience

5 years in Laboratory (preferred Clinical Laboratory) with 2 years in Clinical Chemistry with the focus on Mass Spectrometry and Special Chemistry.
