Job summary

Family Dollar in Chesapeake, VA seeks a full-time Environmental Health & Safety professional to lead regulatory compliance and safety improvements at stores and the SSC. You will develop and implement policies, manage a distributed team, and drive a culture of safety and compliance across operations.

Responsibilities include monitoring OSHA and local regulations, updating programs, and guiding special projects to strengthen health and safety outcomes. Travel about 20% is required.

Qualifications

• 5-7 years in Safety, Regulatory Compliance, Environmental Health or equivalent retail experience.
• Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field.
• Strong knowledge of safety standards and regulatory updates.

Responsibilities

• Drive safety culture and compliance across stores.
• Develop policies, procedures and implementation strategies for standards affecting store operations.
• Assist in the development and implementation of reporting and investigation procedures for store compliance.
• Provide periodic reporting to store operations to improve compliance culture and awareness.
• Manage field structure to support safety-first culture and compliance with applicable standards.
• Review and update job descriptions, task lists, audit forms, and weekly updates.
• Develop regulatory compliance support structure.
• Monitor OSHA and local weights and measures updates.
• Analyze regulatory changes and update programs and policies accordingly.
• Assist with special projects impacting safety and health programs.
• Manage a team of remote and SSC associates.
• Responsible for CA Haz Waste program and its compliance.
• Travel 20%.

This position is for full-time, onsite employment at the Family Dollar Chesapeake Store Support Center.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

• Drive the changes necessary to develop a culture of safety and compliance in all stores.
• Develop policies, procedures and a comprehensive implementation strategy for all identified standards that impact store operations.
• Assist in the development and implementation of a comprehensive reporting and investigation procedure for store compliance.
• Provide periodic reporting to store operations to improve compliance culture and increase awareness.
• Manage and leverage current field structure to support store operations in maintaining a safety-first culture, as well as compliance with applicable standards. Improve communication regarding trends and opportunities for a consistent message across the Company regarding compliance areas.
• Review and update all applicable position information (job descriptions, task lists, audit forms, and weekly updates) to include all components related to current and future risks.
• Develop regulatory compliance support structure.
• Monitor regulatory updates from agencies that directly impact store operations (e.g., Occupational Safety and Health Administration) and local weights and measure agencies.
• Analyze regulatory changes and contribute to strategies to update applicable programs, procedures, and or policies in store operations.
• Assist with special projects that impact the success of the Company’s safety and health programs and compliance function.
• Manage a team that consists of remote and SSC associates.
• Responsible for CA Haz Waste program and its compliance.
• 20% Travel

Minimum Requirements

5 - 7 years in Safety, Regulatory Compliance, Environmental Health; or equivalent combination of education and retail experience (store, distribution center, corporate levels)

Projected Salary Range: $97,000-109,000
