Job summary

GEICO in Melville, NY seeks a Manager, Staff Counsel to oversee the Staff Counsel office for defense of lawsuits against GEICO insureds in liability, UM/UIM, PIP and subrogation matters. Licensed in good standing with CLE where applicable; seven years of litigation experience required.

Qualifications

• Licensed to practice law in applicable jurisdictions.
• Minimum of seven years of litigation experience.
• Experience in insurance defense or personal injury.
• Management experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Manages staff counsel office activities relating to defense of lawsuits.
• Interviews and approves job applicants; conducts performance appraisals.
• Represents GEICO insureds in liability, UM/UIM, and PIP matters.
• Prepares pleadings, motions and discovery; handles depositions and examinations.
• Trains and supervises less experienced attorneys; ensures CLE compliance.
