Job summary

CPKC is seeking a senior professional to lead safety, service, productivity, and financial performance across crossing and right-of-way operations. You will collaborate with government partners to advance safety improvements at public and private crossings and address inquiries from municipalities and citizens.

Headquarters may be in Kansas City or Saint Paul, MN. You will coordinate with Operations and Engineering teams to resolve issues quickly while ensuring compliance with safety standards.

Qualifications

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 5+ years of railroad experience.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to drill down, understand root cause and resolve complex issues.
  • Must be highly motivated and comfortable working independently in a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams) to support daily operations.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with government agencies, regulators, utilities, outside parties, and internal departments on construction, crossing, and signal projects.
  • Oversee all flagging coordination for third-party projects.
  • Lead negotiations for at-grade crossing closures and cost apportionment on joint projects.
  • Prepare and process Crossing and Signal Agreements for public and private projects.
  • Identify and leverage outside funding sources for construction and upgrade initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with CPKC, AREMA, and regulatory safety standards on railway property.
  • Serve as primary contact for public agencies and stakeholders on crossing safety and right-of-way matters.
  • Participate in on-site visits with stakeholders.

Purpose of the Position

Lead safety, service, productivity, and financial performance across CPKC’s crossing and right‑of‑way operations. In this role, you will represent the company with government and regulatory partners to advance meaningful safety improvements at public and private crossings. You will also address inquiries from municipalities, agencies, and citizens with expertise while collaborating across Operations and Engineering teams to resolve issues quickly and effectively. This position can be headquartered in Kansas City, Missouri or St. Paul, Minnesota.

Position Accountabilities

Position Requirements
  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 5+ years of railroad experience
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Ability to drill down, understand root cause and resolve complex issues
  • Must be highly motivated individual who is comfortable working independently in an unstructured, multi‑disciplinary team atmosphere
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams) with the ability to effectively utilize these tools to support daily business operations
