Job summary

NAMI Tennessee seeks a Manager, Program and Outreach to lead statewide outreach and program initiatives, ensuring consistent delivery across 18 affiliates and partners. You will guide volunteers, manage data, and support education and advocacy efforts to broaden awareness and access to mental health resources.

The role requires collaboration with senior leadership, strong stakeholder engagement, and a focus on program quality, growth, and sustainability across Tennessee.

Responsibilities

Job description

Manager, Program and Outreach is responsible for leading and strengthening NAMI Tennessee’s statewide outreach and program initiatives to increase awareness, engagement, and access to mental health education, support, and advocacy services. This role provides strategic oversight of community outreach efforts, program implementation, and relationship building across Tennessee, working closely with NAMI Tennessee’s 18 affiliate chapters and community partners. The Manager, Program and Outreach supports consistent delivery of NAMI programs, monitors participation and impact metrics, and provides guidance and technical assistance to affiliates and volunteers to ensure program quality, growth, and sustainability.

Job Responsibilities
  • Provide consultation and technical assistance to affiliates on:
    • Volunteer development, recruitment, retention, and integration
    • Program implementation in collaboration with program team and affiliate relations staff
  • Lead the Volunteer Orientation pilot initiative
    • Ensure clear communication and updates are shared among staff as necessary and required
    • Lead the screening process for new volunteers, guiding them through the process to identify the best fit.
    • Proactively support volunteers from initial inquiry through successful placement with an affiliate, fostering engagement and long-term retention.

Data and Systems Management

  • Maintain internal databases with proper documentation and communication expectations.
  • Maintain accurate volunteer, trainer, and program records, ensuring timely documentation and clear communication across teams.
  • Prepare and maintain program reports, dashboards, and documentation to support organizational outcomes and grant reporting.
  • Serve as a point of contact for calendar and website updates as requested by staff and affiliate volunteers.
  • Provide technical assistance on systems (zoom, teams, outlook, etc) to volunteers as requested.

Community Engagement & Communications

  • Support the planning and execution of scheduling outreach events in collaboration with Director, Impact and Innovation and other staff members.
  • Collaborate with staff to identify opportunities to expand program reach and strengthen program effectiveness.
  • Collaborate with the Director, Programs & Innovation to find community awareness events in which NAMI Tennessee and/or our 18 affiliates can participate in.
  • Represent NAMI Tennessee at community meetings, outreach events, and speaking engagements.
  • Collaborate with the communications team to promote programs, volunteer opportunities, trainings, and statewide initiatives.
  • Identify and coordinate community outreach events, presentations, and engagement opportunities that increase awareness of NAMI Tennessee and its affiliate network.
  • Support the marketing of our programming and network to result in increased organizational reach, awareness of NAMI in our communities, and opportunities for engagement among our affiliates.
  • Serve as a NAMI representative that engages in proactively sourcing presentation or speaking opportunities that promote NAMI awareness.
  • Build and maintain partnerships with community organizations, schools, healthcare providers, and other stakeholders to expand awareness of NAMI Tennessee programs and volunteer opportunities.
  • Participate in community outreach efforts, partnerships, and general education related to mental health, mental illness, and NAMI resources as assigned.

Programs Support

  • Support the implementation of statewide education programs, trainings, and outreach initiatives.
  • Manage and support NAMI On Campus clubs throughout Tennessee, providing guidance, technical assistance, and leadership development.
  • Participate in program trainings and serve as a resource to volunteers, affiliates, and community partners.
  • Work closely with the NAMI Tennessee program team to support education events held throughout the state.
  • Support statewide initiatives and events including NAMIWalks, Annual Conference, awareness events, and related activities.
  • Support affiliates in volunteer recruitment, retention, and program implementation.
  • Participate in program trainings as assigned.
  • Manage and support NAMI On Campus clubs throughout the state.

Management & Organizational Collaboration

  • Work collaboratively with NAMI Tennessee senior leadership and staff to ensure effective outcomes and measurable impact.
  • Foster strong communication and collaboration across departments to support affiliates, volunteers, and statewide initiatives.
  • Support coordination across departments to keep affiliate operations aligned with statewide goals and priorities.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, business, communications, nonprofit leadership, or a related field.
  • Experience working with nonprofit boards and supporting governance, organizational growth, and planning.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with good judgment and the ability to build positive working relationships.
  • Experience with community outreach and engagement.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Teams.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to solve problems effectively.
  • Experience managing budgets, making financial decisions, and handling reporting.
  • Strong work ethic with passion and urgency for improving systems and resources for people affected by mental health conditions, along with a willingness to learn new areas as needed.
  • High level of integrity, with a commitment to working with compassion, honesty, and effectiveness.
