The Manager/Payroll & Accounts Payable manages the Payroll and Accounts Payable (AP) functions in the Controller’s area of Southwest Gas Corporation (SWG).
POSITION DIMENSIONS
Reporting directly to this position are up to five exempt employees. The incumbent frequently exchanges information with senior management, department heads and professional level personnel within and outside the Controller's area, outside vendors, consultants, auditors and suppliers.
QUALIFICATIONS
There are clear precedents and practices that the incumbent uses as guidelines to determine how this job is performed. This position requires six plus years of relevant work experience plus a bachelor’s degree in accounting, business management or related field from an accredited university, or equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential job responsibilities.
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage day-to-day activities in the payroll function ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and compliance with Company policies and state and federal regulations
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of applicable payroll and employment-related laws and regulations
- Verify changes to personnel information and tax law
- Provide guidance in the calculation of overtime, bonus payments and payroll
- Provide guidance in time-entry and interpretation of pay policies
- Oversee the processing of payroll and ensures accuracy in payment of wages to employees
- Oversee or prepares reports or returns summarizing payroll-related expenditures
- Manage a team of AP analysts and representatives in the AP function
- Manage personnel and workflow to ensure accurate and timely payments to suppliers
- Ensure compliance with financial controls, Federal and State regulatory requirements, including IRS Form 1099 and W-2 processes and state sales/use tax and income tax processing
- Develop and maintain operations and financial controls and safeguards related to the processing of cash disbursements
- Administer the following systems including the design, implementation, and testing of ongoing changes: Oracle Accounts Payable, Hourglass (time and attendance), Oracle Payroll, and Canon
- Participate in all system upgrade and enhancement projects implemented by the Company that impact the accounts payable and payroll processes; evaluate requirements, determine impacts to current policies and practices, and modify business processes as required
- Oversee or perform acceptance testing for MMIS, Canon, Hourglass, and Payroll change and problem requests
- Maintain custody and control for AP disbursements of $2.8 billion annually
- Monitor vendor compliance relating to hardware and software maintenance agreements
- Oversee AP department providing support to operating divisions and staff departments in processing various payment request documents (i.e., Payment Authorizations, Expense Reports, Purchase Orders, Wire Transfers, etc.)
- Oversee and approve journal entries and general ledger account reconciliations
- Perform related duties and responsibilities as assigned
- Regular and predictable attendance is a condition of employment and is an essential function of the job
SALARY DETAILS:
Las Vegas: $123,526 - $185,339
