KP Aviation, an international supplier and procurer of aftermarket aviation components and assets, is searching for the next key member of our team! The Manager of Projects – Engines is responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing multiple concurrent commercial aircraft engine projects, with primary focus on CFM56-7B engine programs, from pre-purchase inspections and technical evaluations through teardown, repair, overhaul, module-level build management, modification, and project closeout. This role develops project work scopes, manages engine disassembly and repair activities, coordinates engine shop and vendor performance, and ensures projects are completed safely, on schedule, within scope, and within budget.
The Manager of Projects – Engines oversees project documentation, technical requirements, financial tracking, repair planning, vendor coordination, CFMI/GE Aviation interface, and risk management while working closely with Product Line, Technical Records, Procurement, Sales, Quality, Finance, and third-party engine shops and repair facilities. This position serves as the primary point of contact for assigned engine projects and drives continuous improvement through disciplined project execution, proactive communication, cost management, and operational excellence. This position requires direct familiarity with CFM56-7B engine architecture, module configuration, LLP status management, and teardown portfolio execution to drive efficient project delivery and maximum asset value recovery.
Your role will take you to new heights, as you will be tasked with these essential job responsibilities:
- Coordinates and manages engine pre-purchase inspections, technical evaluations, records reviews, and onsite engine assessments.
- Develops and manages project work scopes for engines, modules, including CFM56-7B Fan Module, HPC, Combustor, HPT, and LPT module work scoping, assemblies, and engine components in collaboration with Technical Records, Quality, Product Line, and other technical teams.
- Coordinates engine teardown and disassembly activities, including management of a concurrent CFM56-7B teardown portfolio, and ensures efficient project flow throughout teardown, inspection, repair, material disposition, and project closeout.
- Manages engine repair, overhaul, module replacement, modification, and shop visit projects from initiation through completion.
- Coordinates engine shop activities, component repair vendors, MRO facilities, engineering organizations, and subcontractors to ensure timely and cost-effective project execution.
- Reviews engine technical documentation, maintenance records, shop visit reports, Airworthiness Directives (ADs), Service Bulletins (SBs), Engine Shop Manuals (ESMs), LLP status, configuration information, CFM56-7B CFMI Technical Notices, engine build standards, and other technical requirements to develop accurate project work scopes.
- Monitors Life Limited Part (LLP) status, remaining life, back-to-birth traceability, configuration, and other technical factors affecting engine project execution and asset value.
- Manages CFM56-7B EGT margin, thrust rating configuration, performance restoration targets, and shop visit trigger data to inform project work scoping and repair strategy decisions.
- Coordinates with Technical Records and Quality to ensure engine and component documentation, traceability, certifications, and regulatory requirements are complete and acceptable.
- Prepares, negotiates, and executes repair orders, purchase orders, subcontract agreements, project change orders, and additional work requests.
- Reviews repair recommendations and vendor quotations to determine appropriate repair, replace, exchange, or scrap strategies in coordination with Product Line and Procurement.
- Monitors project budgets, forecasts, costs, margins, owner billings, and overall financial performance throughout each project.
- Identifies opportunities to reduce repair costs, improve turnaround time, minimize project exposure, and maximize engine and component asset value.
- Develops and maintains detailed project schedules, milestone tracking, resource plans, risk registers, financial tracking, and communication plans.
- Ensures project execution remains within contractual scope, schedule, budget, technical, regulatory, and quality requirements.
- Tracks project progress and communicate schedule changes, technical findings, cost exposure, risks, delays, and mitigation plans to appropriate stakeholders.
- Coordinates with Procurement, Sales, Product Line, Warehouse, Shipping, Technical Records, Finance, and Quality to ensure successful project execution.
- Serves as the primary liaison between engine shops, repair vendors, customers, and internal stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
- Prepares project status reports, executive updates, financial summaries, technical findings, and other project communications.
- Ensures required project documentation, engine records, certifications, trace documentation, shop reports, and deliverables are completed accurately and on time.
- Leads cross-functional project meetings and drives accountability for schedules, deliverables, costs, and project milestones.
- Supports engine material disposition decisions resulting from teardown and shop visits, including repair, exchange, sale, inventory, and scrap recommendations.
- Manages CFM56-7B teardown portfolio work scope development, including serviceable parts yield forecasting, module condition assessment, LLP remaining life optimization, and material recovery planning.
- Supports continuous improvement initiatives focused on engine project execution, vendor performance, turnaround time, cost reduction, and process efficiency.
- Responds promptly to project issues, technical questions, vendor requests, and operational requirements.
- Builds and maintains strong working relationships with engine shops, MROs, repair vendors, customers, and internal stakeholders.
- Upholds company policies, safety standards, regulatory requirements, and KP Aviation's commitment to quality and customer service.
- Perform other tasks as assigned.
To succeed in this role, you will need to have:
- Strong knowledge of commercial aircraft engine maintenance, repair, overhaul, teardown, and shop visit processes, with specific expertise in the CFM56-7B engine platform.
- Knowledge of CFM56-7B architecture, modules, LLPs, build standards, performance restoration, EGT margin, and material disposition.
- Experience managing CFM56-7B engine teardown and repair projects from planning and induction through inspection, repair, material disposition, and closeout.
- Knowledge of FAA regulations, ADs, CFMI Service Bulletins, Engine Shop Manuals, technical records, configuration requirements, and component traceability.
- Understanding of LLP back-to-birth documentation, certification requirements, and engine material traceability.
- Skill in developing and managing engine work scopes based on technical records, inspection findings, maintenance requirements, and business objectives.
- Strong project management skills, including scheduling, budgeting, forecasting, risk management, milestone tracking, and managing multiple engine projects simultaneously.
- Ability to analyze repair quotations, project costs, margins, material requirements, shop visit cost drivers, and overall financial performance.
- Strong vendor management, negotiation, communication, and cross-functional leadership skills with MROs, engine shops, customers, and internal teams.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, ERP/MRP systems, and project management tools, with the ability to prioritize and make sound decisions in a fast-paced aviation environment.
Education And Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in aviation management, Engineering, Business Administration, Project Management, or a related field is preferred.
- Minimum of five years of project management, engine program management, engine shop, MRO, airline, or related commercial aviation experience, with direct CFM56-7B engine shop, teardown portfolio, or MRO program management experience among those years, is required.
- Strong CFM56-7B platform experience, specifically involving engine teardown and repair activities, module-level work scoping, and teardown portfolio management, is required.
- Direct hands-on or program-level experience with CFM56-7B module management, including Fan Module, HPC, HPT, LPT, and Accessory Gearbox work scoping, build standard application, and performance restoration planning, is required.
- Experience managing commercial aircraft engine shop visits, repairs, overhauls, teardowns, or engine asset projects is strongly preferred.
- Experience working with engine MRO facilities, repair vendors, technical records, and engine material is preferred.
- Experience with CFM56-7B engine platform is required; experience with LEAP-1B is an advantage.
- Experience with GE Aviation or CFMI engine operations, shop visit interface, and technical documentation requirements are preferred.
- Direct experience managing multiple simultaneous CFM56-7B teardown projects, including serviceable parts yield planning, LLP remaining life optimization, and material disposition strategy, is strongly preferred.
- Experience with engine technical records, LLP traceability, maintenance status, ADs, SBs, and engine configuration management is preferred.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or equivalent project management credential is considered a plus.
- FAA Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) certification or other relevant aviation technical certification is considered a plus.
