Job summary

R. J. Corman Railroad Group, LLC is seeking a Manager of Mechanical Training & Operating Compliance to act as the safety SME for mechanical operations.

This role partners with leaders and employees to promote a strong safety culture, ensure regulatory compliance, and reduce operational risk across railroad operations. The position leads mechanical safety programs, develops and delivers training, conducts audits, investigations, and risk assessments, and drives continuous improvement while

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Safety, Engineering, Railroad Operations, or related field; equivalent railroad experience may be considered.
  • Experience delivering technical and safety training.
  • Strong knowledge of railroad safety regulations.

  • Lead and support mechanical safety programs across railroad operations.
  • Develop and deliver safety training for mechanical employees and oversee training records, certifications, and compliance requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with FRA, OSHA, GCOR, AAR and company safety standards.
  • Conduct safety audits, inspections, job observations, and compliance reviews.
  • Lead investigations involving incidents, injuries, accidents, and near misses; identify root causes and corrective actions.
  • Partner with mechanical leadership to implement safety initiatives, policies, and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Monitor regulatory changes and recommend updates to safety programs and procedures.
  • Analyze safety performance metrics and prepare compliance reports.
  • Participate in risk assessments and hazard mitigation activities.
  • Support special projects, emergency response efforts, and other duties as assigned.
  • Travel up to 80% as business needs require.

Job description

R. J. Corman is currently seeking a Manager of Mechanical Training & Operating Compliance to serve as the safety subject matter expert for mechanical operations, partnering with leaders and employees to promote a strong safety culture, ensure regulatory compliance, and reduce operational risk across railroad operations.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead and support mechanical safety programs across railroad operations.
  • Develop and deliver safety training for mechanical employees and oversee training records, certifications, and compliance requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with FRA, OSHA, GCOR, AAR and company safety standards.
  • Conduct safety audits, inspections, job observations, and compliance reviews.

Specialized or Technical Knowledge, or Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Safety, Engineering, Railroad Operations, or related field; equivalent railroad experience may be considered.
  • Railroad management or operations experience.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical department operations and railroad safety regulations.
  • Experience delivering technical and safety training.
  • Experience conducting audits, incident investigations, and compliance reviews.
  • Strong communication, leadership, coaching, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and reporting systems.
  • Valid Driver's License required.
  • CSP, ASP, OHST, CHST, or similar certification preferred.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to work in rail yards, locomotive shops, and outdoor environments.
  • Frequent walking on ballast and uneven terrain.
  • Ability to stand, climb, bend, and inspect equipment for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
Environmental Conditions:
  • Exposure to rail operations, moving equipment, shop environments, noise, and varying weather conditions.
  • Required use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Frequent travel and overnight stays.
