Job description

Position Overview

Our client is a technology-driven engineering and manufacturing company developing advanced precision electromechanical systems and complex mechanical equipment for high-performance industrial applications.

They are seeking a Manager of Mechanical Engineering to lead a team of mechanical engineers responsible for new product development and sustaining engineering. This is a hands-on technical leadership role combining mechanical design expertise, team development, and cross-functional project execution.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience designing precision mechanisms and complex mechanical assemblies, along with the ability to mentor engineers, solve challenging technical problems, and guide products from initial concept through production.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of mechanical engineers supporting new product introduction (NPI) and sustaining engineering.
  • Establish technical direction, engineering priorities, project schedules, and deliverables.
  • Lead design reviews to ensure mechanical designs meet performance, reliability, quality, and manufacturing requirements.
  • Oversee the development of precision mechanisms and complex electromechanical assemblies from concept through production.
  • Guide engineering calculations, 3D modeling, tolerance analysis, finite element analysis (FEA), and product testing.
  • Investigate manufacturing and field issues using structured troubleshooting and root-cause analysis.
  • Provide technical leadership in precision mechanism design, bearing selection and analysis, thermal and structural considerations, and reliability engineering.
  • Ensure appropriate application of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), tolerance stack-ups, and design-for-manufacturability and assembly (DFMA) principles.
  • Collaborate with electrical, controls, manufacturing, quality, and operations teams to deliver robust, manufacturable, and cost-effective products.
  • Work with suppliers and external partners on component selection, fabrication, prototyping, and manufacturing processes.
  • Communicate technical concepts, design decisions, project status, and engineering risks to technical and business stakeholders.

Required Qualifications

  • 10 years of mechanical engineering and product development experience.
  • Demonstrated experience leading engineers, technical teams, or major engineering programs.
  • Strong fundamentals in mechanical engineering, machine design, and precision mechanism development.
  • Extensive experience designing complex mechanical assemblies and mechanisms.
  • Strong understanding of GD&T, tolerance analysis, materials selection, and engineering drawings.
  • Experience with parametric 3D CAD tools.
  • Knowledge of machine elements, including bearings, encoders, connectors, and other precision components.
  • Experience evaluating manufacturing and fabrication methods, including machining, welding, forming, and assembly.
  • Ability to develop and execute test plans for mechanical components and systems.
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to present detailed technical analyses to engineering teams.
  • A collaborative mindset and the ability to work effectively across multiple engineering disciplines.

Preferred Experience

Experience in one or more of the following environments is highly desirable:

  • Precision electromechanical equipment
  • Robotics and automation
  • Complex machinery and motion systems
  • Advanced industrial equipment
  • Semiconductor or other specialized manufacturing equipment
