Job summary

Orlando Health's Orlando Regional Medical Center (ORMC) is seeking an experienced Manager of Laboratory Quality to lead quality initiatives, ensure CLIA, CAP and Joint Commission readiness, and drive performance improvement across the laboratory program.

You will mentor staff, analyze quality data, and collaborate with clinical teams to improve patient safety and outcomes in a fast-paced, high-complexity healthcare environment.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience working in quality assurance in a certified clinical laboratory.
  • Bachelor’s degree in sciences or a qualified area.
  • Florida Clinical Laboratory Supervisor License.
  • National MLS certification (ASCP/ASMT/AABB/AACC or equivalent).

What You’ll Do

As The Manager Of Laboratory Quality, You Will



  • Lead and oversee the laboratory quality management program

  • Ensure compliance with CLIA, CAP, Joint Commission, and applicable regulatory standards

  • Develop, implement, and monitor quality metrics and performance improvement initiatives

  • Coordinate inspections, audits, accreditation activities, and corrective action plans

  • Analyze quality data and drive evidence-based decision making

  • Partner with laboratory leadership, physicians, and multidisciplinary teams to improve outcomes

  • Promote a culture of safety, continuous improvement, and operational excellence

  • Mentor and develop laboratory team members through education, coaching, and quality-focused leadership

Essential Functions


  • Works with laboratory leadership to ensure workflow practices align with departmental strategies and maintain a high standard for patient safety and quality.

  • Ensures all regulatory compliance standards are met in all testing practices.

  • Works with various units to correct identifiable defects regarding workflow, quality, and safety standards.

  • Trains and maintains competency for departmental quality specialists based on LEAN best practices.

  • Establishes and maintains a positive working relationship with team members, providers, nursing, medical directors, departmental leadership, and other hospital departments.

  • Organizes and leads department-specific workgroups to achieve success with quality metrics and KPIs.

  • Promotes a healthy work environment by establishing a climate of growth, challenge, and development for team members.

  • Oversees daily operations of departmental quality specialists and creates standardization for issue resolution, project management, and implementation of new practices.

  • Maintains responsibility for MediaLab and ensures all policies and procedures meet CAP and regulatory standards.

  • Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.

  • Maintains regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state, and local standards.


Other Related Functions


  • Attends all departmental meetings.

  • Participates on committees related to quality and patient safety as appropriate.

  • Responsible for monthly reports addressing areas of opportunity and the monitoring of improvement processes.

  • Provides the team with training and education focusing on best practice and LEAN processes.


Qualifications

Education/Training


  • Bachelor’s degree in sciences or a qualified area.


Licensure/Certification


  • Florida Clinical Laboratory Supervisor License.

  • Nationally recognized MLS certification (certifying agencies include, but are not limited to ASMT, ASCP, AABB, and AACC).


Experience


  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience working in quality assurance in a certified clinical laboratory.
