Job description

Manager of Electromechanical Spindle Engineering

Precision Drive Systems (PDS) is a leading provider of precision spindle design, repair, rebuild, remanufacturing, and electromechanical motion solutions serving the aerospace, automotive, woodworking, metalworking, composites, and industrial manufacturing markets.

PDS is expanding its engineering organization to develop next-generation motorized spindle technologies, smart spindle systems, predictive maintenance solutions, and advanced rotating equipment platforms. We are seeking an experienced engineering leader to join our executive team and help shape the future of spindle technology in North America.

Position Summary

The Electromechanical Spindle Engineering manager will lead all engineering activities related to the development, validation, manufacturing support, and lifecycle management of PDS spindle products and technologies. This position combines technical leadership, product design and innovation, supplier development, and strategic planning to accelerate growth while maintaining world-class performance, reliability, and quality standards.

The successful candidate will possess deep expertise in high-speed rotating equipment, electric motors, spindle systems, precision bearings, thermal management, and electromechanical product development. This role reports directly to the President and will serve as the primary technical authority for all spindle-related products and technologies.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead all spindle engineering, product design, application, and innovation activities.
  • Develop new CNC, robotics, ATC, and smart spindle platforms.
  • Oversee electromechanical design including motors, bearings, rotor dynamics, thermal systems, and control integration.
  • Support manufacturing, sales, supplier development, quality improvement, and product commercialization.
  • Establish engineering processes, KPIs, and engineered sales projects.

What We’re Looking For

  • 10+ years of engineering experience.
  • Expertise in rotating equipment, electric motors, spindle systems, CNC machinery, automation, or precision motion products.
  • Strong background in product design, reliability engineering, and manufacturing support.

Why This Role Matters

  • Leading smart spindle and predictive maintenance initiatives
  • Building supplier and technology partnerships
  • Attaining revenue growth through new product introduction
  • Supporting factory repair and rebuild troubleshooting and root cause analysis
  • Implementing long-term engineering strategy

Ideal Candidate Background

  • Precision mechanical/electromechanical product development and support
  • Quality methodologies
  • Machining process knowledge
  • 3D CAD (Computer-Aided Design) experience
  • Robotic process automation is a plus

This is not a typical engineering manager role. It is highly accountable leadership position with significant influence over technology, product roadmap, and business growth, making it an ideal opportunity for a motivated engineering leader looking to build and scale an innovative spindle technology platform.

PDS is looking for a hands‑on technical leader who can build the next generation of spindle products while growing the engineering organization and supporting the company’s expansion into smart manufacturing and advanced motion technologies. You will shape the future direction of the business, drive innovation in predictive maintenance and smart manufacturing, and make a direct impact on company growth, profitability, and customer success.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Competitive compensation based on experience
  • Performance bonus opportunity
  • Health, dental, vision, and life insurance
