Job summary

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or closely related field.
• 10+ years of mechanical product development experience, preferably with precision electromechanical equipment or robotics.
• Demonstrated experience leading engineers or engineering programs.
• Strong fundamentals in mechanical engineering and machine design.
• Extensive experience designing precision assemblies and mechanisms.

Job description

Summary: The Manager of Mechanical Engineering is a hands-on technical leader responsible for leading a team of mechanical engineers in the design and development of high-performance precision robotic systems and mechanisms. The ideal candidate will combine strong engineering fundamentals with practical product-development experience and effective people leadership. The successful candidate will be comfortable moving between technical design reviews, mentoring engineers, resolving complex mechanical problems, working with customers and suppliers, and coordinating projects with electrical, controls, quality, and operations teams. The Manager will maintain high engineering standards while driving projects toward practical, manufacturable, robust, and cost-effective solutions.

Responsibilities and Deliverables

• Lead and mentor a team of mechanical engineers responsible for NPI and sustaining engineering.
• Establish clear technical direction, priorities, schedules, and deliverables for the mechanical organization.
• Conduct design reviews and ensure designs meet engineering requirements and standards.
• Lead the mechanical development of precision robotic mechanisms from concept through production.
• Guide engineers in performing engineering calculations, modeling, tolerance analysis, FEA, and testing.
• Investigate field and manufacturing issues using structured rootcause analysis.
• Provide broad technical leadership in ME topics:
• Precision mechanism design
• Detailed bearing load, deflection and life analysis
• Vacuumcompatible mechanical design
• Thermal and structural considerations
• Tolerance analysis and tolerance stackups
• Design for manufacturability and assembly
• Reliability analysis
• GD&T standards

Skills Required

• Create detailed designs using parametric 3D CAD tools.
• Analyze mechanisms and machine elements for life, stress, deflection, constraints.
• Choose standard components, such as bearings, encoders, connectors, hardware, etc.
• Choose the proper fabrication technique for parts and assemblies, machining, welding, forming, etc.
• Determine tools and techniques for building, testing, troubleshooting, packaging, and installing products.
• Design tests to ensure mechanisms and components perform as required.
• Innovation, create new solutions to problems using novel and elegant machine designs.
• Ability to design and analyze precision mechanisms and machine elements.
• Ability to present designs, concepts, and indepth analyses to a technical audience.
• Strong ability to troubleshoot and problem solve mechanisms.
• Strong collaborative mindset to work crossfunctionally.
• Aptitude to learn productspecific technical subject matter quickly.

Experience Required

• Minimum 10+ years of mechanical productdevelopment experience, preferable involving precision electromechanical equipment, robotics, automation, semiconductor equipment, or similarly complex machinery.
• Demonstrated experience leading engineers, technical teams, or major engineering programs.
• Strong fundamentals in mechanical engineering and machine design.
• Extensive experience designing precision mechanical assemblies and mechanisms.
• Strong understanding of GD&T, tolerance analysis, materials, and mechanical drawings.

Other Requirements

• Required approx. 10% travel to supplier locations which include local, domestic and international location
• Work is sedentary in nature, but may require standing, walking, grasping, and lifting/moving up to 25 pounds

Education Required

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.

Compensation: The compensation range for this position is $170K to $215K per year. The actual pay offered will be determined by multiple factors, including but not limited to the candidate’s relevant experience, skills, job-related knowledge, internal equity, and geographical location.
