Job summary

CPKC in Corpus Christi, TX is seeking a Manager Mechanical to lead a frontline team responsible for safe, efficient, and compliant train service operations. You will champion safety, drive Lean improvements, manage maintenance standards, and collaborate with Field Operations, Engineering, and local stakeholders to deliver reliable service.

You will also drive performance across safety, service, productivity, and financial results, while coordinating cross-functionally to maintain asset integrity

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum 2 years in railway operations in a leadership role.
  • Available to work nights, weekends, holidays, and on call.
  • Ability to interact with government and stakeholders.
  • Strong root cause analysis and decision-making skills.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, monitor, and communicate KPIs for train service operations.
  • Ensure safety policy/regulation compliance; lead incident prevention initiatives.
  • Maintain regular communication with field operations to meet customer expectations.
  • Build relationships with local union officials and oversee gain-sharing where applicable.
  • Drive Lean improvements to boost productivity and efficiency.
  • Ensure timely car repairs, target cycle times, and operational metrics.
  • Lead mechanical teams during train incidents and coordinate with partners.

PURPOSE OF POSITION

As Manager Mechanical, you will lead a team dedicated to safe, efficient, and compliant operations that keep our business moving. You’ll champion a culture of safety, ensure adherence to regulatory and maintenance standards, and drive performance across key metrics safety, service, productivity, and financial results.

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES
  • Develop, monitor, and communicate key performance indicators to help teams understand train service operations and their role in achieving success.
  • Ensure compliance with safety and accident prevention policies, regulations, and principles; lead initiatives to prevent incidents and enforce the local safety plan.
  • Maintain regular communication with field operations to ensure train services meet internal and external customer expectations.
  • Build and sustain relationships with local union officials, including oversight of gain‑sharing activities where applicable.
  • Drive continuous improvement by implementing Lean recommendations to enhance productivity and operational effectiveness; champion Lean philosophy and principles.
  • Ensure timely completion of car repairs, cycle time targets, and achievement of key operational metrics.
  • Lead mechanical teams during train incidents within jurisdiction, ensuring safe, efficient service restoration with minimal equipment loss or damage; collaborate with Field Operations and Engineering partners.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
  • High school diploma or general equivalency.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Minimum 2 years of working knowledge in railway operations (road, yard, car, mechanical) in a leadership role.
  • Available to work all types of shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays, and on call.
  • Ability to interact efficiently and positively with governmental and stakeholders.
  • Ability to drill down, understand root cause and resolve complex issues.
  • Strong self‑motivation and ability to make decisions within limits of authority.

PRE‑EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS
