Job summary

Saltchuk Marine is seeking a Manager, Materials Management to lead warehouse operations, receiving, shipping, and inventory control across locations. The position reports to the Director of Strategic Procurement and is based in Tacoma, WA, with some travel within the United States.

Job description

The Manager, Materials Management is responsible for leading warehouse operations, receiving and shipping processes, and inventory control activities supporting vessel and operational requirements across the organization.

This role will establish and continuously improve the processes, standards, and systems that ensure materials are received, stored, tracked, and made available efficiently and accurately. Working closely with Procurement, Operations, Finance, and regional stakeholders, the Manager will drive consistency across locations while balancing operational urgency with disciplined inventory and warehouse practices. This is a unique opportunity to build and shape a growing Materials Management function.

This position reports to the Director of Strategic Procurement of Saltchuk Marine and will be based in Tacoma, WA. It requires some traveling in the United States.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the development and execution of the Company’s materials management strategy.
  • Establish standardized warehouse, receiving, storage, and issuing processes across operating locations.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on warehouse operations, inventory control, and materials management best practices.
  • Foster strong working relationships across Operating Companies to support adoption of standardized processes and continuous improvement initiatives.
Warehouse Operations
  • Maintain a safe, organized, and efficient warehouse environment.
  • Operate company equipment such as vehicles, cranes, forklifts or other equipment as required.
  • Oversee daily warehouse activities including receiving, inspection, storage, organization, staging, and issuing of materials and supplies.
  • Design, implement and continuously improve warehouse layouts, storage solutions, and material flows that support operational efficiency.
  • Lead by example and actively support warehouse operations as required.
Receiving & Inventory Control
  • Implement and maintain receiving processes that ensure accuracy, accountability, and timely system transactions.
  • Develop and manage cycle count programs, physical inventories, and inventory accuracy initiatives.
  • Monitor inventory levels and collaborate with Procurement and Operations to support business needs.
  • Ensure inventory records, transactions, and reporting are accurate and reliable.
  • Participate in any internal or external audit related to processes and inventory levels
  • Partner closely with vessel crews, port engineers, operations leaders, and procurement personnel to understand operational requirements and improve service levels.
  • Balance operational responsiveness with adherence to established processes and controls.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on efficiency, accuracy, visibility, and customer service.
  • Develop and report key performance indicators related to inventory accuracy, warehouse performance, and materials availability.
Working Conditions

Work is performed in both inside covered warehouses and outside on the marine facility in all types of weather. Long hours may be required depending on facility or project requirements. Travel will also be periodically required. Regular and predictable attendance is a requirement.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Operations Management, Business, or a related field; equivalent experience will be considered.
  • 5+ years of experience in warehouse operations, materials management, inventory control, or supply chain operations.
  • Demonstrated experience improving warehouse processes, inventory accuracy, and operational performance.
  • Experience working with NetSuite or inventory management systems.
  • Proven ability to influence stakeholders and drive change across multiple teams or locations.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in maritime, industrial, manufacturing, transportation, energy, or heavy equipment environments.
  • Experience leading warehouse redesign, expansion, or consolidation initiatives.
  • Builder mindset with a passion for creating structure, process, and sustainable solutions.
  • Balances operational needs with process discipline and long-term thinking.
  • Strong sense of ownership and accountability.
  • Comfortable operating in both strategic and hands-on environments.

Compensation: Pay for this position will be between $109,157 to $136,440 annually. For a fully qualified candidate we expect to pay $120,000 annually.

  • The benefit program includes medical, dental, and vision coverage for you and your family.
  • This position will accrue 15 days of vacation a year. Accrued vacation will be vested and available for use after successfully completing six (6) months of service.
