Join to apply for the Paralegal role at Saltchuk Marine

This position will support Saltchuk Marine's Legal and Risk Team on a wide variety of matters and projects. In particular, this position will provide legal and administrative support to Saltchuk Marine by assisting with contract review, negotiation, documentation, and execution, ensuring compliance with company standards, and mitigating legal risk, all under the supervision of counsel. This position will manage contract workflows and the continued implementation and use of a contract management system, manage contract processes, and coordinate with internal stakeholders on process improvements. This position will also provide support to the HSQE (Health Safety, Quality and Environment) and Risk teams as needed. This position reports directly to the Associate General Counsel.

Base pay range

$34.29/hr - $51.44/hr

Essential Functions
  • Serve as a point of contact for contract queries to all internal stakeholders.
  • Manage intake of contracts via a variety of intake methods and conduct correspondence with all stakeholders regarding status of contract requests.
  • Conduct thorough initial review of contracts in relation to internal legal thresholds, criteria and risks.
  • Assist with contract review and negotiations (including drafting and interpreting basic agreements and scopes of work) under an attorney's supervision.
  • Track all contracts through the contract lifecycle, including drafts, modifications, executions, amendments, renewals, and terminations.
  • Assist with RFP review.
  • Review certificates of insurance for compliance with contract requirements.
  • Perform administrative functions in connection with various legal documents and proofreading and signing execution.
  • Draft simple template form documents.
  • Maintain contract templates.
  • Facilitate Contracting Process Improvement.
  • Contribute to process improvements and collaborate with internal stakeholders to implement solutions.
  • Assist in addressing supplier compliance issues identified by Safety, Risk, Quality Assurance, Regional Managers, and others.
  • Ensure compliance with ISO processes as they relate to contracting activity.
  • Support Legal and Risk Department as needed.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
  • Familiarity with general office technology and productivity tools for document creation, editing, and management; ability to adapt to various systems and platforms.
  • Strong ability to review and redline edit contracts with attention to detail and accuracy, ensuring contract terms mitigate risk and adhere to company standards and policies.
  • Clear and effective communication skills for collaborating with internal teams and external partners.
  • Comfortable working in dynamic, fast‑changing environments and exercising sound judgment in decision‑making.
  • Strong organizational ability and a demonstrated track record of managing urgent projects concurrently.
  • Excellent documentation skills and attention to detail.
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree or equivalent is preferred. 3-5 years of relevant experience working in a law firm or corporate in‑house legal department setting is required.

Compensation

Pay for this position will be between $34.29 and $51.44 hourly. This is a non‑exempt position that is eligible for overtime.

  • The benefit program includes medical, dental, and vision coverage for you and your family.
  • This position will accrue 10 days of vacation a year. Accrued vacation will be vested and available for use after successfully completing six (6) months of service.

  • Bereavement Leave - three (3) paid days off for a death in the immediate family, or five (5) days off if travel greater than 500 miles is required.
  • Fully paid ORCA transportation card.
  • All other benefits as required by law.
