Description
The Manager, Learning Commons, is responsible for managing thedaily operations of the UCM Learning Commons by ensuring thateffective academic tutoring is provided to all undergraduatestudents. This position is responsible for administering theWriting Center and Online Writing Lab (OWL) services provided toUCM students and for recruiting and training student tutors,including embedded tutors and supplemental instructors. TheManager, Learning Commons, assures a high degree of constituentservice is provided in a walk-in model, on an appointment basis,and to online students. This position produces marketing materialsfor the entire Learning Commons to actively promote services andconnect with students.
Examples of Duties
Manage daily operations of the Learning Commons and WritingCenter: 70%
- Administer tutoring services to include recruiting, hiring,supervising, and retaining highly-qualified peer tutors in allhigh-need subject areas.
- Develop a comprehensive and efficient schedule for in-person,embedded, and online tutoring services.
- Approve student tutor payroll and manage appointmentavailability and staffing using Learning Commons softwaretools.
- Ensure tutors adhere to unit policies and procedures tomaintain high standards for constituent services, overseefront-desk reception, collect usage data, evaluate student-employeeperformance, and assess the quality of services and intendedprogram outcomes.
- Identify gaps in tutoring services and work collaboratively forimprovement.
- Use various student records systems as needed (Banner, Penji,Achieve).
Ensure a high degree of constituent service through all modes ofsupport provided by the Learning Commons and Writing Center:30%
- Produce marketing materials for the Learning Commons andactively promote services to all students.
- Work closely with other faculty and staff to be responsive tostudent tutoring needs across all modes, including embeddedtutoring and supplemental instruction.
- Train Learning Commons staff to assist students in non-academicneeds through referrals to subject matter experts (e.g., financialaid, advising, student records, counseling, etc.)
Typical Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor’s required in any program.
- Master’s degree in any program related to the education and/orsupport of student services. preferred
Experience:
- Minimum of two (2) years working with collegiate learners in aneducational setting
- One (1) year of supervisory experience preferred
