Job summary

Baptist Health is seeking an experienced Medical Technologist with supervisory responsibilities to join our Laboratory team. The ideal candidate will troubleshoot procedures, participate in quality improvement activities, and lead in the absence of the Laboratory Clinical Director.

The successful candidate will hold an ASCP certification and a B.S. in Medical Technology, Biology, or Chemistry, with 3–5 years of MT experience including administrative duties.

Qualifications

• ASCP-registered Medical Technologist
• Supervisory and administrative responsibilities experience required
• Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology, Biology or Chemistry required

Responsibilities

• Identify, troubleshoot, and document procedure or instrument problems.
• Participate in and implement Quality Improvement activities.
• Instruct in-service and continuing education programs.
• Capable of performing lab procedures within established turnaround times.
• Assist in budget process and capital equipment planning.
• Assume leadership in the absence of the Laboratory Clinical Director.

Job description

Demonstrates the ability to identify, troubleshoot, and document procedure or instrument problems. Participates in and implements Quality Improvement activities as requested by the department director. Participates in and instructs required in-service and continuing education programs or presentations. Capable of performing lab procedures within established department turnaround times. Monitors testing practices to assure adherence to quality control and coordinates the continuous improvement of the performance of care and services provided. Assures a safe working environment throughout the laboratory. Monitors department orientation of new technical employees. Monitors the competencies required for all hospital laboratory staff. Assists the Clinical Director in budget process as needed. Assists in the assessment of capital equipment needs, space requirements, staffing levels and other resources needed to deliver services. Assumes the leadership role in the absence of the Laboratory Clinical Director.

• Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology, Biology or Chemistry is required.
• Must be registered as Medical Technologist by the American Society of Clinical Pathology.
• Three to five years as a Medical Technologist to include supervisory and administrative responsibilities required.
