The Role

The Manager of Instructional Design plays an integral role in the Training and Development department. This position reports to the Director of Instructional Design and is responsible for managing large scale projects, supporting the Instructional Design Team, and supporting the team’s vendor relationships. Their main goal is to provide instructional design to content when needed as well as provide leadership and guidance in terms of training solutions, ensuring that all training deliverables are instructionally sound and maintaining support all organization business goals.

What you'll do

Instructional Design, Development and Evaluation

  • Lead and/or conduct needs analysis with business stakeholders and subject matter experts (SMEs) to translate performance objectives into effective global training solutions/recommendations (i.e., synchronous, asynchronous, and blended solutions); present training recommendations to allow for feedback and approvals.
  • Design, develop and implement new training deliverables and programs in a variety of formats, including facilitator/instructor-led, e-learning, virtual classroom and self-directed using Active Training and Adult Learning principles, procedural guides, instructional videos, podcasts, visual aids.
  • Create facilitator and participant guides, skill exercises, role plays, and job aids for a wide variety of technical and soft skills resulting in classes with high participation interactivity.
  • Partner with GTM team members (where necessary) in the instructional design, development, and evaluation process.
  • Provide routine maintenance to content that requires updates to ensure current and accurate information in all programs is shared each time it is delivered.
  • Be engaged in, open to and aware of timelines that allow for multiple avenues of content reviews where feedback and approval is provided and as a result changes may be needed.
  • Engage in utilizing templates created to manage projects from ID perspective (ex: high level design documents, etc.) while continuing to look for ways to create new and/or update existing for continued development planning success.
  • Oversee and lead both formative and summative evaluations for all instructional design projects to measure value and success.
  • Work with existing vendors and/or create relationships with new vendors to support instructional design.

Team Support/Project Management

  • Provide guidance, support, feedback, and development opportunities in all aspects of content creation and management to the instructional design team.
  • Provide updates and status on all individual instructional projects and deliverables to project PM; engage instructional designers in PM process to support projects meeting deadlines/timelines.
  • Maintain and engage in new outside vendor relationships to help with development of content solutions as needed.
  • Manage budget with outside vendor projects as well as software renewals for ID team.
  • Engage in conversations with the Director, Instructional Design to provide insight and planning strategy regarding the continued growth, learning strategies and next steps.
You'll be successful if you have
  • Proficiency with other planning and productivity tools (e.g., Project, Visio) a plus.
  • Strong understanding of web technologies, HTML, SCORM; and proven experience developing instructional graphics, user interface, interactions, and multimedia components using various graphics and multimedia development tools.
  • Proven efficiency with the following, required:
    • Adobe Captivate
    • Articulate 360
    • Adobe creative suite – Illustrator and Photoshop
    • Vyond
  • Experience with Zoom (or online meeting platforms) required; and experience with SuccessFactors LMS highly desired.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, and a superb ability to communicate ideas through visuals.
  • Excellent planning, documentation, and organization skills; with strong attention to details and high standards of quality; and a strong commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and excel in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence and impact people not in a direct reporting role and at higher organizational levels.
  • Results driven, self-starter, open to change, provide problem solving solutions.
  • Experience and ability to manage a team.
  • An enthusiasm and desire to advance self and others personally and professionally.
  • Detail orientation.
Required Qualifications/Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Design, Adult Learning, or related field; MA/MS in Instructional Design preferred.
  • 3-5 years in hotel or franchising industry a plus.
  • Minimum 6 years’ experience successfully designing, developing, and delivering blended learning solutions on multiple platforms (preferably in a hospitality environment).
  • Advanced skills in MS Office 2010 (i.e., PowerPoint, Word, Excel) required.
  • Experience writing effective copy, instructional text, evaluation questions, audio/video scripts, eLearning/video storyboards and training manuals (job-aids & quick reference guides).
