Job Summary/Basic Function:

Assist faculty through consultations, trainings, and referrals in learning and using instructional technologies such as learning management systems, collaboration software, digital images, video, audio, and classroom presentation tools.

This position may have the opportunity to work remotely where all work is performed from an alternative work location either within or outside the state of Idaho.

The Division of Extended Studies aims to extend higher education beyond traditional boundaries by expanding student access and success through innovative programs across Idaho and beyond. We facilitate online education, community-based programs, high school concurrent enrollment, summer sessions, continuing education, and lifelong learning options. Join us!

The Boise State eCampus Center is dedicated to expanding online degrees and classes to meet students' needs anywhere and anytime. We partner with faculty, departments, and leadership to create a high-quality online learning environment. This role involves contributing to online course design as part of the Instructional Design Services team within the eCampus Center.

Level Scope:

A recognized subject matter expert with deep understanding of the field, capable of performing responsibilities independently, managing complex projects, and influencing policies and practices.

Essential Functions:

  • Assist with creating and maintaining tutorials, tools, and templates based on quality standards and instructional design principles to facilitate online course development.
  • Manage multiple deadlines and projects in a dynamic environment.
  • Collaborate with the Faculty Development Coordinator and stakeholders to provide excellent customer service related to online teaching and learning.
  • Lead online course design and development projects, coordinating with faculty and program staff to meet project goals on time and within specifications.
  • Identify priorities and strategic avenues in collaboration with the supervisor.
  • Provide instructional design consultation and support to faculty and academic programs, both independently and as part of a team.
  • Support Extended Studies activities and represent Boise State and the eCampus Center professionally in committees and work groups.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Strong project management, planning, and judgment skills.
  • Knowledge of accessibility standards (ADA, universal design, W3C guidelines), student authentication, and online education technology issues.
  • Ability to develop programs ensuring compliance with policies and best practices.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Creative problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to build positive, collaborative relationships.
  • Effective independent and team work skills.
  • Experience teaching online higher education courses and knowledge of educational technology trends.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree and 5 years of relevant professional experience or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Graduate degree in educational technology, instructional design, or related field.
  • 3+ years instructional design experience.
  • 2+ years working with higher education faculty on online course design.
  • 2+ years teaching or providing professional development for adult learners.
  • Experience with the Quality Matters rubric.
  • 2+ years developing team-based faculty training.
  • 2+ years providing expert instructional design consultation.
  • Experience with learning management systems like Canvas.
