UF Health is seeking a Manager of Hospital Coding to provide operational leadership, oversight, and strategic direction for inpatient and/or outpatient hospital coding across the UF Health enterprise. The role ensures accurate ICD-10-CM/PCS, CPT, HCPCS coding for compliant reimbursements, quality reporting, and regulatory compliance.

Ideal candidates will have RHIA/RHIT/CPC/CCS certifications, extensive ICD-10/DRG knowledge, and proven leadership in multi-site coding operations, with strong Epic

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in health information management, Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Finance or related field.
  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Ten (10) years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree.

Responsibilities

  • Provide operational leadership and strategic direction for enterprise hospital coding across UF Health.
  • Collaborate with CDI, Revenue Integrity, PFS, HIM, and physician leadership to standardize coding practices and workflows.
  • Lead coding productivity, quality, and enterprise coding initiatives, including Epic optimization.

Overview

The Manager, Hospital Coding is responsible for providing operational leadership, oversight, and strategic direction for inpatient or outpatient hospital coding services across the UF Health enterprise. This role ensures the accurate, timely, and compliant assignment of ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, HCPCS, and/or CPT codes to support appropriate reimbursement, quality reporting, regulatory compliance, and organizational performance. The Manager collaborates closely with Clinical Documentation Integrity (CDI), Revenue Integrity, Patient Financial Services, HIM, Managed Care, Compliance, Information Technology, Finance, Case Management, and physician leadership to establish standardized coding practices and workflows across all hospitals within the health system. The position is accountable for coding productivity, quality outcomes, operational performance, staff development, regulatory compliance, and implementation of enterprise coding initiatives. The role also serves as a key leader in Epic optimization and coding workflow standardization efforts.

Qualifications
Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in health information management, Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Finance or related field.
  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Ten (10) years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree.
Experience
  • Minimum seven (7) years of progressive healthcare hospital coding experience.
  • Minimum three (3) years of supervisory or management experience managing hospital coding operations.
  • Experience leading multi-site or enterprise-wide coding operations preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience with coding compliance, auditing, CDI collaboration, and operational performance improvement initiatives.
  • Knowledge of ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, CPT, HCPCS, MS-DRG, APR-DRG, and hospital reimbursement methodologies, as applicable to coding oversight.
  • Experience with academic medical centers strongly preferred.
  • Epic experience a must.
License/Certification/Registration
  • Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or
  • Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) preferred.
  • Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) required.
  • Certified Revenue Cycle Representative (CRCR) preferred.Epic Hospital Coding Operations preferred.
Other Qualifications
  • Strong understanding of Medicare, Medicaid, commercial payer regulations, and hospital coding best practices.
  • Knowledge of claims processing, denials management, and reimbursement analysis.
  • Ability to interpret regulatory requirements and translate them into operational processes.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and lead through organizational change.
