Job description

Allied Mineral Products is a leading manufacturer of monolithic refractories worldwide, headquartered in Columbus, Ohio. We are currently seeking a Manager, Form Fabrication and Engineering who will serve as a hands‑on leader in form fabrication and design, actively supporting shop‑floor activities while collaborating cross‑functionally and contributing to projects across North America. This person will lead evaluation and adoption of emerging forming technologies by investigating new equipment, materials, and processes, collaborating with Process Engineering to assess feasibility, pilot trials, and implement solutions that improve quality, efficiency, and cost performance. The role also manages salaried and hourly employees in the form‑making process from approved engineering drawing through release to Production for casting, ensuring on‑time delivery of wood, metal, rubber, and polystyrene forms that meet quality specifications. This role directly works with the entire Shapes team to continually evaluate and improve production processes, design guidelines, and reduce waste.

Key Duties And Responsibilities
  • Support the operations team by providing forms and molds on time for scheduled production. Set priorities for team based on schedule requirements.
  • Promote and implement best practices in form fabrication and design, supporting standardization and continuous improvement across North America and globally as the organization grows.
  • Provide training and instruction to operations team and other Allied employees on new equipment, safety, and other topics.
  • Support root cause analysis and implement needed solutions or preventive actions.
  • Research and evaluate new forming technologies, working with Process Engineering to test and implement improvements.
  • Manage strategic production and financial metrics to support continuous improvement, growth, team development, and technology advancements.
  • Maintain excellent lines of communication with Maintenance, Production, other Allied departments, and our affiliates.
  • Maintain inventories for all forms (permanent and consumable).
  • Support design of molds based on engineering drawings for the casting of refractory materials.
  • Support production of accurate mechanical drawings for layout, assembly, and fabrication of forms and molds.
  • Support verification of internally and externally fabricated forms.
Qualifications
  • Requires a bachelor’s degree in Engineering, other similar technical field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Previous supervision experience required.
  • At least five years of related work experience.
  • Prior carpentry or fabrication skills are preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, and human relations skills required.
  • Requires excellent spatial reasoning and a practical approach to problem solving.
  • Knowledge of mechanical design principles required.
  • Ability to use a computer for CAD and other tasks.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours as needed.
  • Additional skills useful to this position include knowledge of CNC machinery, woodshop fabrication tools, and engineering GD&T.
Working Environment
  • The job can be in a dusty environment.
  • Production floor is in a non-temperature-controlled building.
  • Required to wear respirator (when needed), safety glasses, hearing protection, and safety shoes.
