Job summary

Tyson Foods is seeking a senior-level professional to manage Environmental and Safety Programs across multiple facilities in the United States. The role includes ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local environmental and safety laws, coordinating training, and maintaining program documentation.

Responsibilities cover Clean Water Act issues, permits, compliance, safety training, incident investigations, OSHA responses, and disaster recovery planning.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering, Safety and Health, or a science-related field preferred or 5 years of equivalent work experience.
• Wastewater license preferred.
• Four or more years of environmental and/or safety management experience.

• Travel extensively within the assigned area to facilities.

Job description

This senior-level position is responsible for managing Environmental and Safety Programs at multiple facilities to ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local environmental and safety laws and regulations. A key aspect of this role includes conducting, coordinating, and maintaining records of training on applicable environmental and safety topics. Environmental responsibilities include managing Clean Water Act compliance issues, including NPDES-permitted wastewater and stormwater discharges. Additional duties may include developing and implementing nutrient management plans for company farms; managing spills, non-hazardous and hazardous waste programs; implementing pollution prevention initiatives; overseeing Community Right-to-Know programs, including Form R, Tier II, and Risk Management Plans; addressing Clean Air Act compliance issues; managing noise and odor complaints; overseeing water conservation and recycling efforts; and performing other duties as needed. Safety responsibilities include coordinating disaster recovery and contingency planning for all operations within the complex; implementing accident prevention strategies; maintaining safety-related programs, including instructor certifications; developing training materials; conducting and supervising safety training programs; coordinating and conducting annual evacuation drills at all facilities; ensuring the proper completion of incident investigations; responding to OSHA complaints and inspections; and performing other duties as needed. This position requires a high level of initiative, as well as the ability to effectively interact and communicate with facility personnel, corporate leadership, regulatory agencies, and the general public. Developing and maintaining positive relationships with regulatory agencies is essential.

Requirements

• Education Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering, Safety and Health, or a science-related field preferred or 5 years of equivalent work experience in the applicable fields.
• Wastewater license preferred.
• Experience Four or more years of environmental and/or safety management experience.
• Computer Skills Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Ability to generate reports, correspondence, and program documentation.

Biosecurity Requirements

• When visiting job sites, entry into biosecure environments requires showering before entering facilities.
• Appropriate clothing and footwear are provided by the company.
• No jewelry may be worn on job sites except approved medical identification jewelry.
• Must be willing to sign an agreement to avoid contact with avian species, including chickens, ducks, and other birds.
• Must comply with the Company Animal Welfare Policy at all times.

Physical Requirements

• Physical Environment Must use safe lifting techniques.
• While performing the duties of this job, the team member is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to handle, finger, or feel objects, tools, or controls, reach with hands and arms, balance, stoop, talk, and hear.
• Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

• When visiting facilities, team members are expected to follow all required safety procedures and wear the appropriate personal protective equipment.

• Extensive travel is required to facilities within the assigned area and may include overnight travel for several consecutive days.
