Job summary

Magid is seeking a Manager Customs Compliance to lead all import/export activities, guide a team of 5 customs specialists, and align processes with best practices. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams and customs authorities to streamline the global supply chain and ensure ongoing compliance.

The role requires strong regulatory knowledge, experience with FTZ operations, and a proactive approach to risk management and process optimization.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree preferred or equivalent to work experience.
  • 3-5 years of customs compliance people management and development experience.
  • 5 years of entry writing experience.
  • 2 years of FTZ operational environment preferred.
  • Experience & understanding of CF 28.
  • Proficiency with penalty mitigation.
  • In-depth knowledge of customs regulations, tariff classifications, and import/export documentation requirements.
  • Experience evaluating Foreign Trade Zones and implementing import/export compliance programs.

Responsibilities

  • People Management & Development: Manage and develop a team of 5 Customs Specialists
  • Training: Train employees on customs compliance policies and procedures.
  • Customs Compliance & Regulatory Updates: Stay informed with changes in import & trade regulations and ensure compliance with all relevant customs laws.
  • Process Optimization: Develop and implement customs compliance procedures & policies; optimize processes to reduce lead times and costs.
  • Continuous Improvement: Drive improvements in FTZ & customs processes with automation.
  • Risk Management: Identify risks and mitigate them, ensuring secure FTZ operations.
  • Tariff Classification: Ensure correct HTS classification and duty rates.
  • Trade Agreements: Utilize knowledge of trade agreements to maximize savings.
  • Audit & Compliance Checks: Conduct audits of FTZ import processes and documentation.
  • Collaboration with US Customs: Build relationships with authorities and handle inquiries and audits.
  • Reporting: Generate reports on FTZ & customs compliance and audit results.
  • Duty Drawback Support: Support duty drawback claims; respond to inquiries from US Customs.
  • Problem Resolution: Address FTZ operation issues and implement corrective actions.

As the Manager Customs Compliance, you will be responsible for overseeing and ensuring all import and export activities are in full compliance with local, state, federal, and international regulations. The Customs Compliance Manager will collaborate with cross-functional teams, customs authorities, and external partners to streamline processes and enhance the overall efficiency of our global supply chain. You will lead the company's customs efforts and guide the team to align with best practices & standards.

  • People Management & Development: Manage and develop a team of 5 Customs Specialists
  • Training: Train employees on customs compliance policies and procedures.
  • Customs Compliance & Regulatory Updates: Stay informed with changes in import & trade regulations and ensure compliance with all relevant customs laws and requirements. Make necessary adjustments to company policies & practices.
  • Process Optimization: Develop and implement customs compliance procedures & policies. Continuously evaluate and optimize processes to enhance efficiency, reduce lead times, and minimize operational costs.
  • Continuous Improvement: Drive continuous improvement initiatives in FTZ & customs compliance processes, incorporating automation and efficiency measures.
  • Risk Management: Identify potential risks and develop strategies to mitigate them, ensuring that FTZ operations are conducted in a secure and compliant manner.
  • Tariff Classification: Secure proper classification of products under the Harmonized Tariff System (HTS) and ensure accurate application of duty rates.
  • Trade Agreements: Utilize knowledge of trade agreements & preferential trade programs to maximize cost savings & benefits.
  • Audit & Compliance Checks: Conduct regular audits of FTZ import processes & documentation to ensure compliance with customs regulations and internal policies.
  • Collaboration with US Customs Authorities: Build & maintain strong relationships with customs authorities. Act as primary contact for customs inquiries, audits, and addressing compliance matters.
  • Reporting: Generate comprehensive reports on FTZ & customs compliance activities, audit results, and compliance metrics for management review.
  • Duty Drawback Support: Provide support for duty drawback claims, ensuring the accurate and timely submission of claims to maximize cost savings. Ability to analyze and answer inquiries from US Customs, including researching historical data.
  • Problem Resolution: Proactively address issues related to FTZ operations, troubleshoot problems, and implement corrective measures.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree is preferred or equivalent to work experience
  • 3-5 years of customs compliance people management and development experience.
  • 5 years of entry writing experience.
  • 2 years of experience in Foreign Trade Zone (FTZ) operational environment preferred.
  • Experience & understanding of CF 28.
  • Proficiency with penalty mitigation.
  • In-depth knowledge of customs regulations, tariff classifications, and import and export documentation requirements.
  • Experience evaluating Foreign Trade Zones, as well as establishing and implementation of import/export compliance programs & processes.
  • Ability to remain current on changes in import and export laws or regulations.
  • Knowledge and experience in managing duty drawback programs.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
  • Proficient in Questa Web or equivalent FTZ software.
  • Exceptional analytical, and problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Solution-based thinking and multi-task in a fast-paced dynamic environment.
  • AS400 or similar systems experience a plus.

The salary range for this position is $112,500.00 to $172,500.00. Actual pay will be adjusted based on job-related factors permitted by law, such as experience and training, geographic location, additional qualifications such as licensure or certifications, market factors, and responsibilities.
