MANAGER - AQUATIC PROGRAMS

WILBUR WRIGHT COLLEGE

City Colleges of Chicago’s , the largest community college system in Illinois, is made up of seven colleges and five satellite sites, providing more than 70,000 students each year access to a quality, affordable education.

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE

Reporting to the Director, Continuing Education, the Manager - Aquatic Programs is responsible for managing the operations of a college’s aquatic / pool facility and the associated programming offered to students and the community, with an emphasis on providing a safe, well-maintained, and adequately staffed swimming pool and aquatic program environment that supports CCC’s instructional and wellness goals. Performs related duties as required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  • Oversees the daily operations of the Aquatic Center and ensures the safety of swimming pool patrons by developing and implementing operating procedures and ensuring staff are properly trained in current safety, emergency response, and security protocols.
  • Conducts regular safety and maintenance inspections of pool, equipment and facility in partnership with Engineering to identify hazards and maintain a safe environment for patrons.
  • Works with supervisor and college staff to plan, organize, and implement aquatic programs, including swimming lessons, as part of the College’s Continuing Education offerings for students and the community.
  • Supervises Lifeguards, Swim Instructors, and other Aquatic Center staff responsible for patron safety, swimming instruction, and aquatic programming.
  • Approves time and attendance records, prepares staff work schedules, and organizes staff training and in-service activities.
  • Participates in the recruitment, interviewing, hiring, training, and performance management of Aquatic Center staff.
  • Ensures Lifeguards and Water Safety Instructors maintain required certifications, including Lifeguarding, Water Safety Instruction, CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers, First Aid, and Bloodborne Pathogens, and maintains certification records.
  • Oversees and monitors the work of maintenance staff responsible for pool testing, water quality monitoring, and regulatory certification activities.
  • Oversees the maintenance of operational, activity, and incident records to ensure compliance with public health regulations, pool certification requirements, and safety protocols. Prepares and provides reports and operational data to management as required and collaborates with the Director of Risk Management to support compliance with safety protocols.
  • Completes and reviews incident, accident, and rescue reports.
  • Maintains inventory and conducts inspections of first aid, lifesaving, and aquatic safety equipment.
  • Assists supervisor and college administrators in preparing the annual operating budget for the Aquatics Center and oversees and monitors budget expenditures.
  • Adheres to CCC customer service excellence standards.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • An Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university, preferably in Physical Education, Recreation, Sports Administration, or a related field.
  • Four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in aquatics, recreation management, aquatic facility operations, or a related field required.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered at the discretion of management
  • Current American Red Cross Lifeguarding certification required, including First Aid, Water Safety Instruction, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, and Bloodborne Pathogens.
  • Supervisory work experience in an aquatic program is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of lifeguard safety practices, water safety instruction, and emergency response procedures.
  • Knowledge of swimming pool mechanical systems, water chemistry, and aquatic facility operations.
  • Knowledge of applicable public health regulations, risk management principles, and industry standards governing the care, maintenance, and operation of public swimming pools.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and customer service skills.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and evaluate aquatic or recreational programming.
  • Ability to work effectively in a culturally diverse environment.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams).

Additional Information:
  • Salary Range: $48,561 - $55,000
  • Offered salary will be determined by the applicant's education, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as other factors such as internal equity.

Chicago residency is required for all full-time employees within 6 months of hire.
