Job summary

The Aquatics Program Manager will oversee the coordination, supervision, and operation of the City’s municipal swimming pools and splash pads. You will supervise the Aquatics & Facilities Maintenance Specialist and Aquatics Director, and work with the seasonal staff to plan programs, safety, and events.

Key responsibilities include staffing, staff training, scheduling, budget adherence, and public relations efforts to promote aquatic programs and special events throughout the season.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Parks and Recreation, Leisure Management or related field.
  • AFO and CPO certifications are required.
  • Lifeguard Instructor Trainer license or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.
  • CPRP or ability to obtain within 12 months of hire.

Responsibilities

Job description

The Aquatics Program Manager position oversees the coordination, supervision, and operation of the City's municipal swimming pools and splash pads. This position is responsible for the direct supervision of the Aquatics & Facilities Maintenance Specialist, Aquatics Director, and the indirect supervision of the entire seasonal aquatic program staff. Additional duties include directing and planning programs and activities, maintaining the aquatics facilities and splash pads, and assisting with Parks & Recreation special events during the off-season. The hiring range for this full-time, exempt position begins at $66,500 (DOQ).

Position Responsibilities
Supervisory.

Hires, trains, supervises, and evaluates aquatic staff. Interviews prospective employees. Ensures that all certifications are valid and up-to-date. Trains new lifeguards and retrains guards from previous years. Trains staff in the proper use of chemicals and hazardous materials. Conducts performance evaluation of all employees. Provide on-site management in the absence of Pool Managers. Work with Aquatics Director to develop a training program for Pool Managers, Lifeguards and Concession staff.

Aquatics Program Management

Responsible for all operational aspects of the City pools and splash pads. Manages schedules and personnel, maintains safety, oversees operational licenses, and follows approved budget. Coordinates swim and dive teams schedules and practices; serves as a liaison between the Parks and Recreation Department and the parent representatives. Coordinates aquatic services with outside agencies and organizations.

Recreational Programming.

Directs planning, promotion, and implementation of programs, activities, and special events, and provides assistance as needed. Recruits program instructors. Assembles information for program brochures, promotional flyers and posters.

Facility Maintenance. R

Responsible for the planning and execution of facility maintenance plans for the Aquatics Division. This includes maintaining all preventative maintenance schedules as well as planning for future needs. This position assists the Aquatics & Facilities Maintenance Specialist when needed and possesses a knowledge of mechanical operations at aquatics facilities.

Public Relations.

Assists with public relations. Maintains contact with general public in person, via phone and written correspondence. Works with Program Manager – Marketing to communicate all pertinent aquatic information to the public including special events, programming and general information.

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Parks and Recreation, Leisure Management or related field
  • 5 – 7 years of related work experience
  • Aquatic Facility Operation (AFO) and Certified Pool Operation (CPO) certifications are required
  • Possession of the American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor Trainer license, or the ability to obtain within 6 months of hire
  • Certified Park and Recreation Professional (CPRP) or the ability to obtain within 12 months of hire
