Assistant General Manager

Position Type: Seasonal / Full-Time Management

Position Summary

The Assistant General Manager supports the General Manager and ownership team in running daily restaurant operations at Avon Promenade. This role is responsible for maintaining service standards, managing staff performance, supporting scheduling and onboarding, overseeing floor execution, and making sure the restaurant operates smoothly during breakfast, lunch, dinner, quick service, events, and high-volume seasonal service.
The AGM must be a hands‑on leader who can manage the floor, support the host stand, assist servers, communicate with the kitchen, handle guest issues, enforce policies, and help keep the team organized during busy summer operations.

Key Responsibilities
Daily Operations

The Assistant General Manager is responsible for helping lead day‑to‑day restaurant operations, including:

  • Opening and closing the restaurant according to company standards.
  • Walking the property before service to confirm cleanliness, setup, staffing, reservations, menus, signage, bathrooms, dining rooms, porch, quick service areas, and service stations.
  • Making sure each department is ready before service begins.
  • Supporting breakfast full‑service operations.
  • Supporting lunch quick‑service and QR ordering operations.
  • Supporting dinner full‑service operations.
  • Monitoring table flow, guest pacing, and overall service timing.
  • Communicating with kitchen, expo, host stand, quick service, bar, and ownership throughout service.
Front‑of‑House Leadership

The AGM must actively lead the FOH team and hold employees accountable to Promenade standards.
Responsibilities include:

  • Supervise servers, hosts, bussers, runners, bartenders, counter staff, and support staff.
  • Assign sections and side work.
  • Make sure staff are in proper uniform and ready for service.
  • Coach staff during service.
  • Correct service issues immediately and professionally.
  • Make sure servers enter orders correctly in Union POS.
  • Ensure appetizers, entrées, course lines, and fire timing are followed correctly.
  • Monitor guest tables and make sure no section is neglected.
  • Support staff when the restaurant is busy by running food, clearing tables, seating guests, helping at the host stand, or assisting quick service.
Guest Service

The AGM is responsible for protecting the guest experience.
Duties include:

  • Greet guests and maintain a visible management presence on the floor.
  • Handle guest complaints professionally.
  • Resolve issues quickly before they become larger problems.
  • Visit tables during service.
  • Support large parties, VIP guests, events, and special requests.
  • Ensure guests understand Promenade service models, including full service, quick service, QR ordering, pickup, and tasting room procedures.
  • Maintain a calm, professional presence during high‑volume periods.
Staff Training and Accountability

The Assistant General Manager helps train new and returning employees.
Responsibilities include:

  • Train staff on service standards, POS procedures, guest communication, side work, table numbers, food running, QR ordering, and checkout procedures.
  • Make sure employees understand the employee handbook and manager manual.
  • Reinforce onboarding compliance: employees may not work unless onboarding is complete.
  • Help confirm employees have completed required 7shifts onboarding.
  • Enforce company policies on punctuality, uniform, cell phones, breaks, employee meals, discounts, alcohol service, and professional conduct.
  • Document performance issues and report them to the General Manager or ownership.
  • Support cross‑training between host, runner, busser, server, quick service, and bar support roles.
Scheduling and Labor Support

The AGM assists management with daily staffing and labor control.
Responsibilities include:

  • Review the daily schedule before service.
  • Identify call‑outs, late arrivals, or staffing gaps.
  • Communicate staffing issues to the General Manager.
  • Help make floor adjustments based on weather, reservations, volume, and service needs.
  • Monitor breaks and shift coverage.
  • Make sure employees clock in and out correctly.
  • Help control labor by cutting staff when appropriate after management approval.
  • Support seasonal hiring, training, and onboarding as needed.
POS, QR Ordering, and Service Systems

The AGM must understand and support Promenade’s operating systems.
Responsibilities include:

  • Use Union POS confidently.
  • Assist servers and quick service staff with POS questions.
  • Monitor QR/table ordering flow.
  • Make sure orders are routing correctly to kitchen, expo, sushi, bar, or quick service.
  • Help troubleshoot guest ordering issues.
  • Make sure pickup orders are organized by name.
  • Support DoorDash, online, and takeout order flow.
  • Communicate POS or routing issues to management immediately.
Resy and Host Stand Oversight

The AGM supports reservation and seating management.
Responsibilities include:

  • Monitor Resy during dinner service.
  • Help hosts manage waitlists, reservations, walk‑ins, and large‑party requests.
  • Maintain proper pacing so the kitchen and service team are not overloaded.
  • Support the standard of seating approximately 15 guests every 15 minutes when applicable.
  • Make sure parties over 8 are directed to the proper events contact or manager approval process.
  • Keep hosts organized and communicating with the floor.
Cash Control and Checkout

The Assistant General Manager may be responsible for cash and checkout procedures.
Duties include:

  • Monitor server checkouts.
  • Confirm credit card slips, cash, and reports are organized properly.
  • Ensure cash is handled carefully and accurately.
  • Follow MOD cash control procedures.
  • Report discrepancies immediately.
  • Make sure no unauthorized discounts, comps, voids, or refunds are processed without manager approval.
  • Protect company funds and maintain accurate records.
Bar, Wine, and Tasting Room Support

The AGM supports bar and tasting room operations.
Responsibilities include:

  • Make sure the bar is ready for service.
  • Confirm wine, sangria, mixers, garnishes, glassware, ice, and supplies are properly stocked.
  • Support the Ripe Life Wines tasting room procedures.
  • Reinforce that food purchase is required for wine sales and service.
  • Ensure responsible alcohol service.
  • Monitor underage drinking risks and ID compliance.
  • Help maintain wine house standards and product availability.
Cleanliness and Property Standards

The AGM is responsible for maintaining the appearance and condition of the property.
Duties include:

  • Inspect dining rooms, porch, bathrooms, host stand, quick service area, server stations, bar, sushi bar, and outdoor spaces.
  • Make sure trash, floors, tables, chairs, menus, windows, and service areas are clean.
  • Report maintenance issues immediately.
  • Make sure staff complete side work before leaving.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, professional restaurant at all times.
Events and High‑Volume Service

The AGM supports special events and large‑volume service periods.
Responsibilities include:

  • Assist with rehearsal dinners, buyouts, private parties, holidays, and buffet services.
  • Help execute event setup, staffing, timing, food flow, beverage flow, and guest communication.
  • Support Mother’s Day, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, and other peak seasonal periods.
  • Maintain calm leadership under pressure.
Required Skills and Qualifications
