Job summary

Job Summary

The Business Systems Analyst Support position plays a key role in assisting the Tax Operations Division with the analysis, testing, and improvement of complex business systems that impact the division, department, and statewide tax processes. Working closely with Management Analysts, GenTax / Paper / Efile Coordinators, MNIT staff, FAST developers, and this role help ensure system functionality, data accuracy, and smooth implementation of changes.

Working with Coordinators this position is responsible for updating business requirements, supporting solution design, and performing extensive testing of system fixes, upgrades, annual tax return changes, and new functionality for paper and electronic returns and registration. The analyst will monitor and diagnose system issues, recommend solutions, and complete priorities aligned with division and departmental goals. The role also develops testing scenarios, creates and updates procedures, and provides technical assistance and troubleshooting guidance to division staff.

The Business Systems Analyst Support participates in department projects, provides regular progress updates, and collaborates with other testers and coordinators to ensure consistent and accurate outcomes. This position does not supervise staff and reports to the Supervisor of Business Systems Unit 1.

This position is eligible for hybrid telework. Employees living within 50 miles of the office will be required to work in the office at least 50% of the time each month. Employees may reside outside the state of Minnesota if they live in a state bordering Minnesota and are within 50 miles of the primary work location.

Existing employees who were approved to telework from a bordering state and more than 50 miles from their work location before June 1, 2025, may retain this arrangement unless they move farther away.

Minimum Qualifications
  • One (1) year* of professional experience as a business systems analyst that includes monitoring, analyzing and testing business systems.

OR

  • Three (3) years of experience providing technical assistance with business systems and researching and assisting with the resolution of complex systems.
  • Experience creating or maintaining documentation such as procedures, testing scenarios, or system requirements.
  • Experience with performing system testing, validate outcomes, and ensure changes function as intended.
  • Strong problem‐solving skills to research, monitor, and resolve complex system or procedural issues.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and support work across various functional areas.
  • Effective communication skills to provide technical assistance, deliver updates, and document activities.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience testing, writing scenarios, and executing test plans
  • Knowledge of state government and Revenue's policies, procedures, processes, laws and rules
  • Experience with working with or creating XML Schema requirements and test files
  • Experience writing and maintaining procedures
  • Experience leading or working on projects/teams
Additional Requirements

Must be legally authorized to work in country of employment without sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H1B status).
