Job summary

UAB Medicine is seeking a Radiologic Technologist specializing in mammography to join our imaging team at St. Vincent's Trussville.

In this PRN role, you will provide high-quality mammography imaging services, properly prepare and position patients, and educate them on the importance of regular screening. You will ensure image quality, adhere to safety standards, and support a fast-paced inpatient and outpatient environment.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited Radiologic Technology program.
• BLS certification required within 1 month of hire.
• Bone Density Certification may be required within 6 months of hire.
• One or more of: Cardiographic Tech (CCI), ARDMS, or ARRT Radiography credentials.

Responsibilities

• Provide mammography imaging services.
• Operate equipment and perform mammography procedures; position patients and set parameters.
• Explain procedures and educate patients on regular mammography for breast health.
• Evaluate film quality for density, contrast, definition, and distortion.
• Follow radiation safety procedures and guidelines.
• Submit high-quality images and patient data to PACS; ensure lead markers are correct.
• Maintain a clean, orderly department and report equipment issues.
• May perform DEXA bone density scans if applicable.

Job Description

Provide mammography imaging services.

• Operate equipment and perform various mammography related procedures. Prepare and position patients and selects anatomic and technical parameters accurately.
• Explain procedures and educates patients about the role of regular mammography in preventive breast health.
• Develop and evaluate the film for technical quality such as density contrast, definition, and distortion.
• Follow radiation safety procedures and guidelines.
• Ensure prompt submission of high-quality of all images and documents sent to PACS (image quality, correct lead markers and patient data/history).
• Ensure equipment is properly functioning. Report potential problems or equipment malfunction to appropriate personnel.
• Assist in maintaining a clean, and orderly department to include procedure rooms, storage areas, dressing rooms, film storage area and any other areas in department
• May perform bone density scans using DEXA equipment, if applicable.

Qualifications

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

• BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
• Bone Density Certification may be required within 6-months of hire or transfer date (if applicable)
• One or more of the following required:
  • Cardiographic Tech credentialed from the Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date
  • Medical Sonographer credentialed from the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.
  • Radiologic Technologist specializing in Radiography credentialed from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.

Minimum Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited educational program in Radiologic Technology required
