Job Details

The Mammography Technologist performs mammography exams, screenings, and diagnostic studies, and assists during invasive procedures. Under the physician's direction, the technologist detects breast tissue abnormalities and presents findings for diagnosis. Provides patient care and education before, during, and after imaging procedures.

Job Description

1. Interacts professionally with co-workers, visitors, and staff, adhering to Jefferson's values.
2. Operates mammography equipment to produce diagnostic images.
3. Ensures proper patient and breast positioning, instructs patients, and adjusts equipment for optimal imaging.
4. Follows radiation safety standards to protect staff and patients.
5. Documents mammogram services accurately in patient records.
6. Gathers complete patient history and provides care/support before, during, and after procedures.
7. Performs preventive maintenance and troubleshooting of equipment.
8. Completes related duties as directed by supervisors, including quality assurance tasks.
9. Maintains ongoing education to meet licensing and job requirements.
10. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Knowledge of mammographic imaging techniques and procedures.
• Ability to prepare patients and monitor reactions during procedures.
• Responds effectively to emergent situations.

Minimum Education and Experience:

• Graduate of a recognized Radiology Sciences program or ARRT certification in Radiology Technology (R). ARRT (CT) preferred.
• For technologists qualifying after April 28, 1999, at least 40 hours of documented Mammography training required.
• Digital Mammography training or on-the-job training with competency and didactic completion required.
• Preferred: 6 months to 1 year of experience.

Certifications and Licenses:

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• ARRT certification in radiography and mammography, with MQSA compliance preferred.
• Eligible candidates have 6 months to attain (M) certification.

Day shift, United States.
