Overview

To perform routine and specialized diagnostic radiological procedures including invasive procedures for patients of all ages in order to confirm or deny required treatment. This requires independent judgment to adapt procedures to obtain specific diagnostic results under the direction of the radiologist.
Qualifications

License/Certifications:
Basic Life Support (BLS) within 3 months - American Heart Association (AHA); Registered in Mammography (M) - American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT); Licensed Radiologic Technologist - Radiography - Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA); Registered in Radiography (R) - American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)

Education:
Associate's Degree: Radiologic Technology (Required)

Responsibilities

Clinical Excellence/Patient Care

  • Performs mammographic exams in a manner that ensures an accurate and complete examination within the guidelines, policies, procedures and standards of medical imaging to assigned patients of all ages

  • Exhibits competency in performing mammographic procedures.

  • Competent in all invasive mammographic guided procedures including but not limited to stereo/Tomo biopsy, galactogram, localization procedures, specimen imaging, specimens from Histology

  • Knowledgeable about views required for each exam.

  • Uses proper compression

  • Obtains accurate histories and explains rationale for procedure to patients/families.

  • Enhances image quality through the use of appropriate exposure factors.

  • Identifies images with appropriate markers and patient identification.

  • Positions for appropriate view, making patient as comfortable as possible

  • Performs patient education throughout exam

  • Protects patient privacy as much as possible

  • Completes a minimum of 200 mammography procedures/year

  • Maintains working knowledge of equipment in order to function in multiple areas of mammography

  • Reports equipment problems through appropriate channels

  • Maintains clean work area, checks and stocks all supplies in their specific area and verifies pertinent accessories assigned to that room

  • Performs daily, weekly and monthly QC/QA tests

  • Competent in DEXA procedures

  • Competent on Mammography workstation

  • Promptly completes paperwork and obtaining images to ensure timely turn-around in providing a report to the physician's office.

  • Promptly and accurately enters patient information into HIS system to ensure efficient patient throughput

  • Maintains and ensures a safe environment for patients and personnel and maintenance of the QA, QC, QI programs.

  • Assumes personal responsibility for training fellow technologists/students

  • Shares knowledge and guides fellow technologist/students with proper department protocol and procedures.

  • Displays a professional attitude in the area toward fellow technologists/students, fostering mutual respect and creating a productive learning environment.

  • Completes work within assigned shift.

  • Uses time, supplies and other resources productively to promote responsive and cost-effective care of patients.

  • Uses slow time to improve area appearance and accept additional assignment such as checking mammography schedules.

Compensation and Benefits

The compensation range for this position is $29.04per hour - $49.95per hour. This represents a good faith minimum and maximum range for the role at the time of posting by Carle Health. The actual compensation offered a candidate will be dependent on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate's experience, qualifications, location, training, licenses, shifts worked and compensation model.
