Job Summary

To perform Mammography procedures utilizing X-Ray imaging equipment to produce images of the breast for the screening, diagnosis, and/or treatment of diseases or injuries, while ensuring optimum patient care and safety.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Knowledge of Anatomy, Physiology, Radiation Physics and Protection, and the principles of Imaging.
• Skill in the use of imaging equipment.

• Ability to alleviate patient anxiety.

Responsibilities

• Performs mammography procedures to produce images of the breast.
• Explains procedures to patient, obtains and records relevant medical history, selects appropriate equipment settings, and positions the patient for optimal imaging results.
• Views images to determine quality and forwards for review and interpretation; maintains applicable patient documentation.
• Maintains supplies and a clean work area; reports equipment malfunctions.
• Assumes responsibility for patient safety; provides physical and psychological comfort.
• Ensures compliance with safety, environmental, exposure control, and infection control practices.
• If serving as a lead: manages workflow, performs quality control, orders supplies, manages schedules, and maintains reporting standards.

Physical and Environmental Demands

Requires frequent exposure to high noise levels, extreme temperatures, dangerous equipment, bio-hazardous conditions, and physical activities such as lifting, climbing, crouching, and standing. Specific percentages of activity are noted.
