Job description

Responsibilities

Operates specialized mammography, stereotactic biopsy, and bone densitometry equipment. Performs direct patient care and a variety of technical procedures to produce diagnostic images for breast diseases and osteoporosis evaluation.

Position Responsibilities

• Selects and modifies patient positioning; performs mammographic, stereotactic biopsy, breast pathology localizations, and bone density procedures.
• Provides patient education for mammography patients.
• Conducts mandatory quality control of radiographic equipment, screens, and processing to meet ACR, MQSA, and state regulations. Maintains documentation and takes appropriate action for equipment cleaning and image quality. Analyzes repeat/reject images daily.
• Assists radiologists with invasive procedures, documents procedures, and provides first aid if needed. Correlates biopsy reports with pathology results.
• Coordinates with the O.R., scheduling, physicians, and staff for effective planning of invasive breast procedures.
• Maintains supply levels in mammography rooms and orders supplies as needed.
• Assists in training new personnel and students.
• Ensures timely communication of reports to physicians and patients.

Qualifications

Education and Licensure:

• Associate’s Degree (preferred)
• Registered by ARRT in Radiography (R) and Mammography (M); current certification required
• Certified by the State of Texas – MRT
• CPR/BLS certification through AHA

Experience:

• Minimum of one (1) year experience as a radiologic technologist

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Good dexterity and handwriting skills
• Effective interpersonal communication with patients, physicians, visitors, and staff
• Strong written and oral communication skills
