Job summary

MercyOne Health System in Mason City, IA is seeking a Mammographer for a full-time, day-shift position. The role includes mammography, stereotactic breast biopsy, and bone densitometry if qualified, with collaboration alongside radiologists and referring physicians.

The successful candidate will hold ARRT registry, state license and be willing to obtain required mammography certifications. BLS certification is required; training in abuse reporting is mandatory within six months of hire.

Qualifications

• Maintains active ARRT registry as a radiologic technologist.
• Maintains state license and permits to practice radiology.
• Willing to obtain mammography, stereotactic biopsy and bone densitometry certifications.
• Proof of mandatory abuse reporting training within 6 months of hire and every 5 years.
• Current Basic Life Support card required before employment or within 30 days.

Responsibilities

• Performs mammography, stereotactic breast biopsy and diagnostic radiography as required.
• Coordinates procedures with radiologist and referring physicians.
• Participates in procedures with radiologist and escorts patients as needed.
• Obtains consent, ensures forms are completed before exams.
• IDs and transfers patients, QC images, and sends to PACS.
• Manages film and image workflows in PACS and RIS systems.
• Mentors students and peers as required.
• Maintains radiation safety and participates in ongoing education.
• Supports quality assurance and maintains records.

What You Will Do

• Completes all procedures as described in the policy and procedure manual; including mammography, stereotactic breast biopsy, bone density (if qualified) and diagnostic radiography.
• Assists in the coordination of procedures with the radiologist and referring physician.
• Competently participates in procedures with the radiologist.
• Performs consent process with appropriate patients, ensures all documents are completed before initiation of exam.
• Identifies and safely transports patients to and from the department. Properly IDs and QCs images and sends images to PACS.
• Assumes responsibility for film and image management in PACS and completes accurately related Radiology Information System (RIS) functions.
• Instructs student technologists and peers as required.
• Monitors area for safety and uses safe radiation practices
• Participates in continuing education that enhances job performance.
• Assists with quality assurance procedures and maintains all records

Schedule

• 40 hours a week
• Varied daytime shifts, all 8 hrs. Varied start times (700-1530, 730-1630, or 800-700)
• Monday-Friday. No weekends, holidays, or call.

General Requirements

• Maintains current & active ARRT registry status
• Maintains current state of employment Permit to Practice Radiology Technologist License
• Must be willing to obtain certification in mammography, stereotactic biopsy, and bone densitometry
• Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter abuse training specific to population served within six (6) months of hire & renew every 5 years
• Must provide proof of Basic Life Support (BLS Healthcare Provider, American Heart Association; or American Red Cross, Professional Rescuer-LIVE class only) via current card prior to employment or within 30 days of hire and maintains current status
