Job summary

Mercy Health in Ohio is seeking a Registered Mammography Technologist to perform breast imaging procedures including screening, diagnostic, invasive, and DEXA studies according to established protocols. The role supports radiologists and adheres to ARRT/ACR/MQSA guidelines while ensuring patient safety and quality imaging.

The ideal candidate will have ARRT Mammography certification (or obtain within six months), an associate degree, and relevant experience.

Qualifications

• Certification in Mammography (ARRT) preferred; must obtain within six months of hire.
• State licensure preferred where required.
• BLS certification required.

Responsibilities

• Perform all breast imaging and DEXA procedures.
• Assist radiologist in invasive breast procedures with aseptic technique.
• Document patient history and relay to licensed provider prior to examination.
• Choose and operate breast imaging equipment and exposure factors.
• Apply radiation safety to minimize exposure.
• Educate patients and provide discharge instructions.
• Participate in department quality improvement plans.

Shift/Schedule

• Part Time - Scheduled for 20 Weekly Hours
• Shift Times - Days
• Weekends & Holidays - As Needed

Primary Function/General Purpose Of Position

The Registered Mammography Technologist produces high quality breast imaging procedures while following guidelines established by the ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologist), ACR (American College of Radiology) and MQSA (Mammography Quality Standards Act and Program). They will perform all screening, diagnostic, invasive, and DEXA (dual energy X-ray absorptiometry) scans according to established protocols and procedures for interpretation by supervising physician.

Essential Job Functions

• Performs all breast imaging and DEXA procedures.
• Assists the radiologist in invasive breast procedures, ensuring aseptic technique and consent is obtained by performing physician.
• Correlates patient's clinical history with procedure, ensuring information is documented and available for use by a licensed provider. Conveys patient's clinical history to licensed provider prior to examination.
• Selects and operates breast imaging equipment and associated devices to achieve desired results.
• Selects appropriate radiographic technique exposure factors to produce quality diagnostic images.
• Applies principles of radiation protection to minimize exposure to patient, self, and others.
• Applies the principles of patient safety during all aspects of the mammographic procedures.
• Provides patient education and discharge instructions.
• Participates in the department's quality assessments and improvement plans.

Licensing/Certification

• Certification and Registration in Mammography, ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists) (preferred upon hire, or must obtain within six months of hire)
• State Licensure (preferred, unless required by the state where the job is being performed)
• BLS Basic Life Support – American Heart Association (preferred upon hire, must obtain from approved source prior to direct patient care) (required)

Education

Associate's from an ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists) accredited institute (preferred)

Work Experience

1 year experience as a registered mammography technologist (preferred)

Training

• EPIC Electronic Health Record (EHR) (preferred)
• Picture archiving communication system (PACS) (preferred)

• Geriatrics (65 years and older)
