Mindspan Institute in Cambridge, MA seeks an on-site maker-space engineer to build and run a new makerspace. You will set up CNC mills, lathes, a drill press, 3D printers and a laser cutter, and co-design parts for neurotechnology projects.

You will document processes, train scientists, and maintain safety while delivering fast design-build-test cycles. This in-person role offers autonomy as the institute grows and expands its instrument portfolio, with comprehensive benefits.

Qualificações

• BS/MS in mechanical engineering or equivalent experience.
• Hands-on experience with manual/CNC machining, 3D printing, laser cutting, and CAM software.
• Proficiency with modern 3D CAD, drawings and tolerancing.
• Record of designing, building and testing real parts in a makerspace or prototyping lab.
• Familiarity with makerspace tools and safety training.

Responsabilidades

• Build the shop: specify, buy, install and commission machines and safety systems.
• Run the shop: keep machines calibrated, manage materials, and train scientists.
• Co-design and fabricate: turn experimental needs into CAD models and parts.
• Assemble, test and integrate: build subsystems and test for function.
• Document: maintain drawings and process notes for others.
