Job summary

William & Mary seeks a Makerspace Engineer to lead operation, maintenance, and growth of campus makerspaces. The role includes hands‑on training, supporting courses and student projects, repairing fabrication equipment, and promoting safe, effective use of resources.

Mentors student engineers and collaborates with faculty and staff to advance innovation and experiential learning. The candidate should have experience with digital fabrication, prototyping, and manufacturing, and be able to teach

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related technical field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience operating and maintaining fabrication equipment.
  • Knowledge of shops, laboratories, or makerspace safety practices and enforcing safety procedures.
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts to users with varying levels of experience.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and customer‑service skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with students, faculty, and staff.

Responsibilities

  • Teach and support hands‑on courses and workshops; train students, faculty, and staff in safe use of fabrication equipment.
  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair makerspace equipment; supervise facility operations.
  • Develop educational programming and outreach activities; support student design, research, and entrepreneurial projects.
